Holy Guacamole! $690 for a vintage pickguard?

I'm restoring a guitar, and had thought about bidding on this 1953 Tele pickguard back when it was $49 earlier this week. But I think I'll stay with my very non-vintage pickguard for now. In fact, I think I've decided I like it better than a vintage guard.

An hour to go and it hasn't even hit reserve yet:

You know, For someone with a true need for that piece, I guess the price insn't bad. The guitar still would not be original tho. However, for an item like that, it would take more than a seller with a feedback of "1". Most of the black guards had clear sprayed on top from Fender. On the back side would be a circle aprrox 4.5-5" that is an overspray mark. Apparantly the guys at Fender placed these on a paint can to clear them like that. I don't see that on this one. Plus, is that the cmaera angle or is that a large hole on the front side?

re 53 Tele pickguard and seller

Well guys, the pickguard sold, the reserve was $700.
As for being "real" I can vouch for the item and the seller, he is a good friend of mine, he's new to eBay but the pickguard in question is indeed original, he had a 61 Strat pickguard that he sold last year for $1000!
Wayne is a packrat, he kept EVERYTHING over the years, , old parts, pieces, even has the original Fender catalog from 61 when he got his first Strat!
Check out this link for more parts that he has and some background, you can see that he is for real
