cv question

hi,

I tried the CVC, and i thought it was very bright.
I heard the cv50 vb on youtube, and it is very hot.

So my question is: Is the BSB a mix of the 2?, is it hotter than the cvc, but brighter than the vb? If yes, please tell me cause that is what I am looking for.

Don't compare tone on youtube videos. Whoever was playing- what amp settings did he use. Is he using a $5 microphone or a $500 mic? How far was the mic from speaker, or is he recording direct? What recording EQ was he using? What machine/software? Add to that you're most likely playing it back on computer speakers that range from 1/2 inch to 3 inch...

The CV50 uses hotter, darker pickups than the CVC. The BSB has the same bright pickups as the CVC.

The CVC has a 5.8k bridge pickup the CV50's vb is 8.5-8.8k.

The CVC bridge sounds thin and twangy the CV50's vb doesnt sound thin and twangy.

Yeah that's what i noticed, but what i want to know is how does the BSB sound compare to them? Is it a mix of the two guitars since it's the same wood of the vb and the same pickups of the cvc?

My CV BSB has a bit more bite and grit than my CVC. Nowhere near the CV50's vb I've played, but it's definitely not as thin sounding as the CVC. YMMV.

That's good to know since I thought the CVC sounded a little bit too thin when i tried it.

Thats right the VB and BSB models have different finish and pickups with the BSB using the same pickups as the CVC.

The CVC is the twangy sorta thin sounding one its Don Rich all the way.

When searching for one I always concentrate on the neck feel first once I find one that I like the way it plays I can always make it sound different with strings caps or pickups.

My CV50's vb sounds better than my CVC but doesnt get as much playtime.

The CV50 used to have hotter Alnico 3 pu's. Now all the CV's have the same lower output Alnico 5's. The perfect combination for me would be the hotter Alnico 3 bridge pu from the older CV50 and the neck Alnico 5 from the CVC. I went with Dimarzio Area T's in my CVC....which I'm liking (especially the no 60 cycle hum). The Area T's are really sensitive to how close they are to the strings. The closer you set them, the louder, punchier, fatter they get. Further from the strings yields an airier, snappier more vintage tone. You can get them pretty close to the strings w/o magnet pull as the T's use Alnico 2's which don't have as much "pull". I have mine "medium close" for some more punch and volume, but still retain all the twang and clarity.

Agree 100% best sound would be the CVC neck pickup with the CV50's vb bridge.

Im sure the DiMarzios are an improvment.

If it wasn't for the nasty 60 cycle hum I get in my house with single coils, I would have kept the stock CVC neck pu and just changed out the bridge for something with more punch and volume (Duncan Jerry Donahue or something similar). The CVC neck pu is one of the best sounding Tele neck pu's I've ever heard....they really sing, no mud at all. The Area T's really nail the Tele sound for a stacked coil design. Far better tone than the Fender Vintage Noiseless which to my ears are very thin and ice picky (although the active mid boost on the FSR's made for GC solves that problem bigtime).
