Lace sensors
Hi, I have a question regarding my MIA Telecaster. I really want to replace the bridge single coil with a humbucker. Is it something easy to do? I'm thinking of wiring two Red Lace sensors together at the bridge and get a Blue one for the neck, like on an old Tele Plus. What do you think?
What about the Little '59 from Seymour duncan? Or maybe a single Red Lace sensor if the first option would be too difficult and expensive? Thanks ahead of time. |

does anyone make a bridge to do hold two separate single coils? i don't know for certain, but i think that the tele plus had the two lace sensors mounted on one bracket like a humbucker, and bridges like that can be found.
many people will say that the lace sensors sound sterile, but if adjusted right there are good sounds in there. i think a lil '59 is a better bet, though. more usable sounds, plus it fits a standard bridge. even if you can find a bridge to hold two lace sensors, you'll have to do some routing. |

go for the '59
i've never heard anything bad about it, except that it doesn't capture pure tele tone. but if you want pure tele tone, what are you doing with a humbucker??
you'd have to find a bridge, and you may have to re-route the body to fit a 'bucker in there. expensive, difficult, irreversible. i'd shoot for something easier.

A Friend of mine has just converted his MIM Tele to Greenwood spec. He used a normal humbucker bridge plate because Lace do a humbucker called a Dually, which is basically 2 single coils on one base plate which were used on the Tele plus. You will need to modify the hole for the humbucker with a router because a humbucker wont fit in a standard Tele bridge hole

59
out of all the pups i've tried, the 59 is by far my favorite.
i have a little59 in the neck of my (gasp) str*t (sorry), but i can get some wonderful low bluezy/jazzy tones out of it. my next tele will have a 59 in the bridge -- unless these old-school single-coil TDPRI'ers wear off on me! :D -j5 |

As owner of Tele Deluxe Plus
I can say that it's a pretty nice guitar... actually it's a great guitar. I bought it new in '91 and it's the model with the vibrato bar. I used it with the lace sensors for a number of years and then decided to change. I put a strat neck Texas Special in place of the blue neck lace sensor and then dropped a SD Pearly Gates Plus (made for Fender) in place of the dually red lace sensors. I used this for about three years and then switched back. Somehow the lace sensor sound has it's own uniqueness to it. I didn't realize how much I missed it until i reinstalled them. The other setup was fine and had no problems. May have been a bit more raw and powerful, but I thought the lace sensors just gave the guitar a bit more variety and flexibility in sound. If you can find the lace sensors out there I would suggest you at least try it and see what you think. You won't get that traditional Tele sound, that's for sure, but you will get something quite different.

Here's what to do
Radiohead
Just get a Red Lace Sensor if you want a hot humbucker sound. There is no need to have 2 sensors in the bridge position since 1 red sensor is fat and hot enough. Rio Grande makes a humbucker for the bridge too with custom bridge plate also. Good luck |

If you really want two red sensors, just call Don Mare (he also prowls through the TDPRI on occasion) at Lace. The Dually model is just that: two single coil sized pups one one plate. You can mix and match. Don's a really good guy and a great Buchanan-style blues player. He'll fix you right up.
Also, you can get a humbucker-sized Tele bridge plate from Ste-Mac.

BTW, I have used a blue lace sensor in the neck of my '52 Vintage Series Tele for some time now and it is great. I kept the stock bridge p/u but needed an even mellower neck p/u....highly recommended.

Dual lace sensors at the bridge doesn't make sense to me....
I'd get one that already has humbucker at the bridge, or get a single red LS for it.
