Hank Sr. & a Telecaster!

Hello all! It's me again with another story in Country Music. As many of you know, I'm a big fan of Hank Williams. (Heck I like all 4 of them ~ Sr, Jr, III & Holly. I even named my daughter Audrey)
You may remember my post about Big Bill Lister from a couple of months ago:
http://www.tdpri.com/viewtopic.php?t...ht=bill+lister

Anyway I'm always searching for more stuff from that era, be it music, records, musicians, instruments, or pictures. Well I have one pic of Hank Sr. and one of the guys in his band is playing a Fender P bass (the original Tele style one) and I've always wondered if there was one of Hank with a Telecaster. Hank died on New Years day Jan 1st, 1953. The Tele was still new, but had been around for at least 3 years. Hank toured the California area quite a bit as well.

Which leads me to this pic of a feller named Harvey T. “Blackie” Bennett. I don't really know much about him, but man did he have a great guitar! (Who here wouldn't give their "I" teeth for that guitar today?!)

He also played with Bill Monroe and Chet Atkins on some Opry shows.

Just thought I'd share a GREAT Telecaster & Hank Williams picture with you all.

Johnny Isaacs

What a great photo.

Thanks, Johnny -- it's really something to think that Hank's Martin dreadnought was a newer design back in the '50s than the Tele is now -- time sure does fly on by, and the early Nocasters and Teles are now genuine classics right alongside those big herringbone-bound flat-top masterpieces!

That can't be a real 50's Telecaster 'cause the fingerboard isn't worn. I bet it's a copy.

Definitely an accordian player behind Hank. I believe that was before they passed that law ................"Play an accordian ......... Go to jail".

Johnny;
You don't have a pic of Hank's pedalboard that you can post as well do ya?
Re; Hank's Martin.. I recall that in Chet Flippo's Hank book it lists his guitars in the bit dealing with Hank's estate. I seem to remember it listing a D-18 as well as his Southern Jumbo and D-28's. Have you ever seen a pic of Hank with the D-18?
Surely ol' Hank would have picked up that Tele and had a play on it to see what the new-fangled Fender guitars were all about. What I wouldn't give to have a pic of that!

I have seen a few pictures of him with the 18. He sure did like those D28's, I think I've seen more pictures of him what a D-28 than just about anyone.

Here is a pic of the Southern Jumbo

Another (Looks like young Chet off to the side)

Hey Buckocaster51,

The other picture I was looking for with the D18 must have been in that same studio, but Hank is holding a sack of flour on his shoulder and you just see a little of the 18.

If I can find it I'll post it here.
