Squire Vintage Modified Tele

Anybody tried or own this guitar? Comments........good, bad, meh? I haven't found any demos on UTube......I'm wondering what the tone (neck + middle) would sound like.
Thanks.........WPO

Never tried, but I found this on youtube.

I have a Squier Vintage Modified Custom 2, and I think that the VM are well made for the price.

I've had one of those for about 5 years. I love it. I ended up completely changing the pickup configuration about 3 years ago, but from what I remember the neck humbucker was pretty cool. The pickups are Duncan Designs, which I find to be pretty good for being included in a Squier guitar. The neck on mine is amazing, hence why I have kept it around and kept modding it.

It's Squier, btw.

I'm very interested in this at the moment. Every time I picked it up, it didn't have a Tele sound as much as a big, thick tone. Very unique, but you can add different pickups to get a different, more Tele sounding vibe.

I have one. I did a lot of wiring mods. The 2 big things I wanted were bridge + neck pickups together option and neck humbucker single coil option. I did both and some other stuff and it worked out pretty good.

The neck on mine had an issue that would not allow it to be straight enough, no matter how tight I adjusted the truss rod. Took it to a shop and they said the same. It wasn't way off, just enough to not allow me to get the action right though. I have a neck from a Squier '51 on it now.

I thought the pickups were pretty nice for a while, though I always thought the bridge was too thin and bright - ice-picky. I recently took it to a gig on which I normally use my American strat and realized the sound of the Vintage Modified Telecaster is not gonna work for me. It sounds pretty good around the house. I really like the middle pickup alot. The neck humbucker sounds good too and even the single coil sound from it is decent. Cranked up at the gig though it just got too brittle and harsh sounding or something. I couldn't seem to get the clean output I needed from it, and I have adjusted pickup heights quite a bit to see if that was the problem. I'll be selling it soon I think.

I own a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Thinline, not the same model in question, although some things are common to both.

The neck has a satin finish and is easy to use. It's wide and thin and the action is low, making it very easy to fret and bend the stings, even after I replaced the original 9-42 strings with 10-46... very fast action. I can get lower action on this than on my MIM Deluxe Nashville. It has a 24.5" scale.

I can't help you on what the neck+middle would sound like.

The fit and finish is fine, in fact better than I expected on a $300 guitar. The tone is Tele, is bright with that Tele country spank, even though it's a rosewood fretboard.

I replaced the stock 6-saddle bridge with a 3-saddle Fender vintage bridge (a drop in replacement), and 3 Graph-Tech compensated saddles. I put strap locks on it, and domed knobs. Other than that, it's stock. It's a fine guitar. I used it as my bedroom practice guitar and also gigged with it at a local coffee house. I'm selling it due to my 1-in/1-out policy and I just got a new higher end guitar.

Hey........thanks for all the comments boyz! I took a look & listen to the Youtube demo..........hhmmm, I'm thinkin' maybe the Mustang 1 amp used in the demo isn't gonna give a good representation of the guitar. I'll probably get this guitar when all is said and done......after all, MF does have a 45 day trial guarentee....heh,heh. I'm just looking for that humbucker in the neck and was curious how the HB neck + Strat middle sounded. They advertise the pups as "Duncan Style", have their been any "failures"...? All in all, I think it will be a good platform for trying different pups. The first thing to go will be the strings and electronics. The only other 3 pup guitar I have is a MIM Nashville, which I liked to start with and now I really like it since I re-wired with the "super switch" and got the neck + bridge position.

I thought only the thinline model in this series has the 24 3/4" scale, not the guitar the OP is eyeing.

TxTeleMan noted that in his post. First sentence.

... notes the models are not the same, although some things are common to both. I may not be a Vulcan, but I don't see how you can logically deduce from that whether or not the two VM models have the same scale length. But since scale length tends to be more consistent than not through various model ranges, I think I'll stand by my comment -- one would expect two different VM models to share the same scale length rather than have different ones.

My wife bought me that guitar for Xmas.
I did a COMPLETE "verbatum" Brent Mason mod on it.
Pickups, control plate, bridge, Sperzels....everything.
Even PLEK'ed the fretboard......this guitar plays itself.
Conservatively THE BEST guitar I own.....a Fender Squire.
Who knew....
