Anyone playing a Tele deluxe( the real 70's one) ?

There is one in a local store - a 74 I think - natural - all original - and I like it ! It has its own thing goin on with the humbuckers. BUT the price is almost $3000 Canadian - which seems a little high for me. Anyone have one than can tell me about them ?

I had a '74 that I bought used in '76 and played for about 25 years. They were an attempt by Leo Fender to get some of Gibson's market share. The neck pickup on mine was sweet and fat, like a Les Paul. The bridge humbucker retained some of the qualities of a Tele. You can find out more by searching "wide range pickups" here on the Forum.
$3000 CDN is a collector's price, meaning the guitar is all original, etc.Frankly,to me it's a loony price, but tastes vary. For that kind of money, you could buy any current Tele you want, put boutique pickups in it,and still keep most of your money.
If it's a 70's Tele you're after,I've got a '72 I'll sell ya at a fraction of that price. :)

seems way way high. I played a '76 deluxe for 10yrs. way cool guitar. the 3bolt neck is its weakness. not nearly as stable as a 4 bolt.

i think you can do better than that. Heck you might want to look athte new eissues of that guitar.

I am...a little

I have an all original 74. I am sure that you know this, but you would not want to buy it to use as your only Tele. It's tone is much more like a Les Paul, although a little brighter and airier than an LP. Tones of output as opposed to Tele pups.

I don't use it or play it like a Tele. I play it and use it more like an Les Paul. I have two other Teles for Tele tones.

No problems with neck stability. Frets are somewhat like an LP Custom...low and wide. That takes some getting used to...Usually fairly heavy, too.

Very cool guitar...Popular with the alternative set....I use it for thicker tones and higher output stuff rather than using a Gibson. Why...cause I prefer the snap of Fender's 25.5" scale to Gibson's mushy 24.75".....and I am a Tele freak...love to whip out a Tele and rock with humbuckers once in a while.

Right now, they are going from $1200 to $2000 on the Bay depending on condition. Internet dealers at the high end of that range.

I agree.

As stable as 4? No.
But a problem? No.
