Bad taste using same tool more then once to RELIC!

Anyone else notice this...
The same tool is used all over the Relic...
this never really happens in real time!
Very seldom if ever~ is a chip/dent/ scratch on a guitar ever caused by the same object.

Also the even spread out of "chip/dent/ scratch"
looks like a kid painting rocks,,, never once do they over lap or touch each other..creating a polka dot look!

Fender and a few other Relic shops... needs' to load up on all sorts of sharp & blunt objects and never use the same tool twice, and start letting the scar's touch and over lap.

Art classes can also help!~ LOL~ but true!

Relicing....hmmmm......

I've always had an aversion to fake aging! Let the playing take the toll and create the real thing. It's right up there with wealthy folks in unnaturally ripped jeans.....( no flame intended here ) You have to rip those jeans while working on something. MHO

Natural Relic-ing

I used to baby my equipment until I figured that those dings and chips are badges of courage and mojo jewelry. I have to laugh at the belt sander Home Depot relic attempts. Heck, I'm a relic when you get right down to it!

Relic

While I enjoy the natural relic look, I still take care of my gear. i would rather have my 30 - 40 year old guitars look like they are well cared for rather than a beat to ****e relic. I agree with Don, the same dent's don't happen over and over again in the same spots on guitars. The belt sanders need to go bye bye...and every relic'd neck I see has the same pattern of wear. Oh well, to each his own. A slight relic looks cool, but some of these extreme ones...come on! The shops that relic need to be like those sound effects guys for the movies that have the huge kits to make different daily sounds.

My neck starting to look like that and it's only 5 years old, I never cared for that relic look, especially on the neck, I'am going to replace or refinish it, just don't care for how the wood feels where all the finish is gone and it's starting to 'scallop' on its own in a few places.

So if you and Skydog swap necks, you'd both be happy...

Geir :)

I doubt it :( , it's just a MIM, It's real close to needing a fret job so when they are shot think I'am going to refin/refret it (for some practice, my first maple refret wasn't too hot), I was looking around yesterday and found an ebony neck I think is going on next 8).

Serves 'em right for abusing a perfectly good guitar for no good reason.

I make no bones about it, I detest the entire 'relic' scenario and find it all completely laughable.

ALL of it.

To each his own...

Relic . . .

Drak, (you crack me up!) ..I had a new tele built with the intention of making it look old in the first place, otherwise it wouldn't have gotten built ..(same thing as buildin' old lookin' furniture).

Heres how to relic a Tele.

To properly "relic" a Fender Telecaster, simply strap the guitar to the front bumber of your truck, or car and drive from where ever you are to Anchorage Alaska. I guarantee you a relic job that will do you proud. :)
