Fernandes Tele Copy

What's up guys.

I have read some good things about Fernandes Telecasters but they seem pretty hard to find much information on. I was hoping to get some of your opinions.

Thanks,
Levi

they made lots of models and made them for a long time...some were good some not as much. Depends...as it so often does...on the model.

Which ones were the good ones? In general is a TE-1 or TE-2 a better model? Also, is there an good way to determine the year other than just the headstock? Thanks for the responses.

I remember them from the 80s. There may still be some old ones in unusual places. More strats than teles

Here are pictures of later versions of the TE-2 and TE-3 before I reshaped the headstocks a little. I've since rounded the ends a bit. Earlier versions of Fernandes Tele copies had Fender style headstocks. I consider them very nicely finished guitars.

I had a TE-1N (BSB ash body, rosewood neck) for a couple of years, probably spent at least as much in upgrades as the guitar cost and was still never satisfied with it so I sold it at a big loss. Looked nice though.

Damn Torz hate to hear that. Approximately what year was that one? There is one on eBay that says its early 90's MIJ. I should probably go with a Fender or Squier just wanted something different.

..I have two myself...just like the pics above!...except the solid body is "sunburst"...I replaced the stock bridge on the thinline with a Callaham bridge (tamed a bit of the bright/harsh trebles) with brass saddles...sounds and records superb now!..

I got it new in '96, not sure if it was new that year or had sat in stock for a few years.

It was not a bad guitar, it was Japan-made but just not any comparison to the Japanese Robin I still have from the 80s, which has all of the earmarks of coming from the ESP factory.

The main problems I had with the guitar was the cheap, buzzy tone and the fretboard which looked dried-out at all times, even 5 minutes after rubbing oil into it. I overcame these problems by replacing the hardware (incl. pups) and the neck. When I was done I had a halfway-decent $300 guitar that cost me 6 or 700 bucks total to end up with.

I know a session player in Nashville he has two of them loaded with Danny Gatton Pickups says he won't play anything else.

Here's a couple of crappy cellphone pics of mine, purchased in 1992. Alder body, rosewood neck. It's all original except for the nut, and it's my daily player.

As my first post here I'll bring up an old thread :) I'm considering an older Fernandez for sale locally.

details:
- 1983/85 RTE-50W
- ash 2-3 pc body
- maple neck, "v" shape
- nut width is 42.35mm
- upgraded TV Jones in neck position (with routed pup cavity)
- upgraded bridge pickup

The seller is asking $625, which seems a bit steep to me. I like everything about the specs (thick maple neck, tv jones in the neck). I would appreciate some feedback as to what folks would consider a fair price for something like this, as there is little info or other fernandez guitars for sale on the web.

Also, my other tele is a CIJ '52 reissue (soft v neck) with kinman broadcasters. I love it and am looking for something that feels the same, but sounds a little more thick-n-juicy.

Thanks in advance!

Well, the third link is the one that is posted locally, but yeah it's beyond fishy. All 3 descruibe the same guitar ... even the wording is identical. Geez.

Looks like I have to add someone to my spam list ...

Thanks for looking out.

The search continues!

Cheers,
Graham

I have an early 80's "The Revival" w/Bardens. I haven't played much of anything else for 27 years.

My favorite Tele bridge pickup came from a Fernandes. Should have kept the rest of the guitar also.
