Telecaster Highway 1

I bought my boy a Telecaster Highway 1 in Honey Blonde color and he loves it

I don't know too much about these guitars at all...any advice on how to tune/set this thing up so that he gets the most out of this ?

It would help if someone could give me a list of some popular players who use the Telecaster

Is Jack White using one in the Portland, Oregon video with Loretta Lynn
Thanks

i just caught that video tonight, and yea that's a telecaster alright. his has a "bigsby" whammy bar on it in that video.
TONS of great players have and continue to use telecasters.
how bout this one. word is, the solo to led zeppelin's "stairway to heaven" was a tele, as well as much of the first led zep albums.
i have a highway one, and i love it. i but brass saddles on mine and new tuners, but neither is necesaary really, more preference

I would recommend going to Bill Hullett's (he's semi-regular poster here) homepage and arranging to get his CD: "Two-lane Blacktop."

It is Tele 101 demonstration of what a Tele is supposed to sound like in a semi-Country setting, and what it can do in the proper hands. Well recorded too.

(hey, at least I got the title right THIS time)

Lotsa kids are into early Led Zeppilin nowadays too. That was Jimmy Page onna Tele through a lil' ol' Fender Champ amp on the first couple albums (Stairway To Heaven is on there). Rock and Blues!

Mike Bloomfield used one early in his career with Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

James Burton used one with Ricky Nelson, Elvis, etc.

Buck Owens and Don Rich (Bakersfield sound Country)

Amos Garrett used one on Maria Muldar's "Midnite At The Oasis."

Gads, the list goes on and on: Jeff Beck...

try www.mrgearhead.com and click the fender button. then choose 5 steps to a great electric guitar set-up. telecasters are simple enough for a guy who is willing to to a little research (not too much even) and who is a little handy and a little patient, to learn
take a look at that stuff, see if you think you (or your boy, even better) would wanna take a crack at it. it's a skill that will certainly come ine handy in the future, and if you do it yourself you can expiriment and adjust your setup easily if your tastes change (not uncommon to change preferences with some experience).

anyway, look at that stuff, and if you feel handy (telecasters are really easy to adjust) take a crack at it, or consider havin a *good* tech do it for a couple bucks(i'd get a reference from someone). if they are good it will make it play a lot nicer most likely
