Big Fun Rainy Guitar Saturday

Last Saturday, it was pouring rain but I had to get out, and more than a little amp GAS pushed me onto the freeway. I assured my wife I'd sell to finance first, buy second-so I packed up a couple of amps and guitars and headed over to the show.

:D Found a buyer for the most collectible of the items I was wheeling around in a little red wagon (there was a lot of interest in that wagon!) within 20 minutes of arriving at the show. The sale covered the price plus $$ of the amp I coveted.

8) I met Carlos Santana, and I took the opportunity to ask him a stoopid question: does he play Telecasters? he said yes he does, at home, and he's been playing Telecasters with his friend Robben Ford.

After a few hours at the show I headed over to the Guitar Center that had the amp I wanted. Still pouring rain. GC still had the amp, I plugged a Tele (52RI) into it and I was SOLD!

8) GC took my offer of $900 and I just beat out another very interested buyer who had arrived a few minutes after me.

I won't bore you all with a review, but this amp is a great Telecaster amp:

Vox AC30/6TBX, with "Blue" Celestion alnico speakers

For the first time I satifisfied some GAS...and made a profit

Cool story.....

I love when GAS stories have happy endings....I am going to the Orange county guitar show this Saturday, hopefully, I will have as pleasant an experience.

I never could warm up to an AC30. What's the secret? I like 'em when someone else is playing but I can't seem to find a good tone with one.

no, that's the most important question!

Secret? I don't know, I bonded with the amp immediately. Perhaps the versions of the AC30 you played didn't feel right to you. For example, some AC30's have solid state rectifiers, which I think would be a very different playing experience than I've enjoyed with my new AC30 (has a GZ34 tube recifier). I generally prefer a tube rectifier, you have your own preferences of course. For me, if an amp doesn't feel right, I'm not going to play good tone.
