Does String Gauge Affect The Action?

Just wondering, since I'm about to go down from 10s to 9s, does the gauge of the strings affect the action?

Logic seems to tell me that '1/16" above the 17th fret' is still '1/16" above the 17th fret', no matter how you slice it. But seemingly clear thinking has gotten me into a pickle before, hence my query!

Thanks, folks!

Depending on the Guitar, you may need to add a touch of relief to the neck, and tweak the intonation for the lighter gauge strings...but your saddle height can remain the same.

Yes. Smaller string gauge = less tension = changed neck relief = changed action. Probably will lower and buzz. Ymmv.

It all depends on the guitar.

Some dont change much others do it all depends on how stable your neck is.

You can usually go from 9's to 10's without many adjustments or from 10's down to 9's bur if you go 2 sizes up or down you will most surely have to do a minor setup like from 9's to 11's or from 10's up to 12's.
