Blackout tele
I am taking group lessons at out college and yesterday was the first day of classes. one of the students shows up with a new blackout tele. overall it looke real good but when I ask him to turn it over so I can see tyhe back, it says it was made in Korea. has any had any luck with a Fender tele made in Korea. is it made in a fender plant or by someone elce and just have a fender decal put on it. I am not really in teh market for another guitar butI am really just wondering. On the fender web page it does not say where they are made.

They are made for Fender....
To the best of my knowledge, Fender DOES NOT have a factory, other than the one in CA and Mexico. For everything else, they contract with one of the overseas factories to build them guitars.
That said, I have run into a few Fenders that were made in Korea that weren't half bad. In fact, I think (I have to go llok) I might have one of the Fender acoustics made in Korea....It's one that has the Strat style headstock with the six in-line tuners. If it is....It's an OK acoustic.... |

Some late 80's Squier Strats were made in Korea.....
I bought one brand new in 88 in Santa Cruz. It doesn't say Squier anywhere on it - Just Fender Stratocaster. Came with Fender hardshell case. I think I paid like $289 for it back then. It's made in Korea. I've upgraded the pickups and it has been my main guitar since then. Black with maple neck. Plays great.

Fender Country Of Origin ............
The Fender website does not state where the guitars are made but look at the part number and compare it to the following which is from the Mr. Gearhead website. I think it's out of date. The Korean made Fenders have a 026 prefix.

i have a gold top, hh made in korea model that i like for the price i paid. i paid 400.
it's not gonna knock anyone's socks off, but it's really light (if slightly neck -heavy), has a really thin fast neck (like on the ibanez shredder type guitars). fretwork is good, finish is good. it's all mahogany with a set neck. it's almost more like an sg in some ways than a tele, but for loud heavily distorted rock it works great. |
