Have you seen a Korina tele?

I haven't, but I'm thinking of making one. Tru-Oil finished, with a HD '54 Special bridge pup and an all maple neck.

Would it twang?

I know all the 'net blurbs compare Korina to mahogany, but have you Korina folks found this to be true? When I think of mahagony, I think of slow and syrupy...

Also, I'd love to see pics of any!

i recently built a korina hard-tail strat.

obviously, not a tele...and {being a hardtail} it's arguablly not even a strat in the minds of many.

but i adore it! haven't put it down yet....tone for days. very strat-like, but {somehow} nicer, in some indescribable way....

i vote "go for it!"

It will twang... maybe

Don't believe all you hear about how korina is like mahogany. I have a warmoth black korina thinline that spanks and zings like a swamp ash body, only a bit beefier. I don't know how much of this has to do with the thinline construction, but it sure is twangier than any mahogany thinline I've tried.

For the record, it has a Twang King bridge pup, Tallboy neck pup, rosewood board warmoth boatneck, and Callaham vintage bridge w/ brass saddles.

RE:Korina Tele

That would be one awesome axe. Who cares whats "right" or "normal". Color out side the lines! It will be YOUR guitar and built by your hands. So it might not twang like a tele but growls like a Les Paul or it might do both! Yea, go for it!

I have a friend who has a Korina Les Paul Jr., and it is not like a mahogany one. It seems brighter and clearer and more balanced. It's an awesome guitar.

I'm hoping it'd do both - I'll be putting a Fralin PAF 'bucker at the neck spot. As I love Tele's for jazz too.

Looks like I'm barking up the right tree then, thanks.

Hey Mark, it is what it is. I just picked up a hardtail strat, and plopped in a SD Twangbanger bridge pup. What a great thing... Twangs and quacks and rocks!

Any pics?

That body was pre-finished by Warmoth in clear poly, with a dark brown stain on the back (matches rosewood board perfectly). It was a showcase item, so what I saw was what I got (good price, just over $200 finished). An oil finish would be awsome, though. The body weighs only 3 lbs 9 oz. There's another korina thineline body on the showcase for about $270 I think.

I heard having no f-hole makes the tone a bit punchier, and since I was expecting the korina to be a more mellow wood, I opted not to have an f-hole routed. In retrospect, the f-hole would have been ok. I'm more of a meat n' potatoes guy when it comes to guitars, so no f-hole and no fancy pickguard is my preference.

I too have a Korina Les Paul Jr.

It's featherlight and one of the best playing and sounding LP jr's I have ever played...and I've played alot.
