Got the "Players" DVD this weekend

i wanted to see more of Vince Gill, so I bought the "Players" video. I hadn't known about it before reading about it on this forum last week.
I've watched the Vince Gill segment and think it's pretty awesome.
You guys have probably talked about the video before but I just want to say "Thanks".

The Players

I agree that the Vince Gil segment is the high point of the DVD. The Players' instrumentals are also smokin', not surprisingly. I have to say that the rest of the program left me underwhelmed. I like Shaun Colvin--saw her open for Richard Thompson once--but man, the performance on the Players DVD was not her best.

I got mine at a Borders book store. It was sitting there right out in plain sight or I might not have noticed it.

Yeah I was bummed to see Travis Tritt get so much time on there too. I would have much rather seen "The Players" do some instrumental stuff. Who does Travis know? I got a bluegrass show where he plays banjo with Earl Scruggs and other bluegrass allstars. Since when is Travis a bluegrass star? But I guess it's all about selling product..........
The "Don't try this at Home" was the highlight for me. I was hoping there'd be a lot more of that kind of stuff.
Not bad overall, but it reminded me of the "CMT approach" , get a lot of pop stars to try to get mass appeal.

bought it too...

and was dissapointed. It was cool seeing some of the tunes, and the interview section was nice, but after seeing the Players twice at Third and Lindley, this just wasn't enough of the Players and too many "stars" - it left me wanting more.

That said, it is still cool for what it is.

Go see them live if you ever get a chance!

Considering the lack of Vince Gill video's- I'm happy to take what I can get. :-)
All I've watched so far is the Vince Gill portion.

I've noticed the DVD at Wallyworld and FYE (formally Camelot Music). I was glad to see that it was getting some broad distribution.
Having "known" artists on the DVD helps to sell the product. The general public wouldn't know The Players so having someone recognizable helps with sales. I do wish there was more of just them playing on there.
Call me weird but I kinda like the interview portion the most.

As far as Travis Tritt and Bluegrass, I think he was into a lot of Bluegrass in Georgia before he was "somebody".

Yep, maybe the next one will be mainly or all the
players live at 3rd and Lindsley or a similar place.
3rd and Lindley is good because there is a balcony
that gets a good full stage view and oddly the
acoustics in there are good within a decent volume
range.

I've been watching this since I got it. I'm starting to really like the second Vince Gill tune that has Brent Mason playing the fast riff.

Brent did a fine vocal on that tune he wrote.
Think the intention here was to have some good
music that might reach a broader listening
audience as opposed to just a guitar players
crowd.
Would you want to make a living just relaying
on guitars players buying your stuff these days?
I rather play for folks that don't know nada
about guitar stuff too much but like music and
being entertained.
(It's fine for us folks but knowing beyond from the years
gigging.)

Best wishes to all for 2005!

Well for me

I loved it, all of it. I just love being able to sit in my own front room and watch/listen to a multitude of talents that I couldn't see otherwise. Yes, I loved it and i certainly have no shame in saying so!! Such a pity you guys just can't appreciate what I did.

Same here -- of course, I've been a BSM fan for quite a while -- and though the 3rd and lindsley stuff is so intensely cool, your average dvd purchaser isn't going to buy it, unless it has appeal to a broader audience.

One of these days maybe I'll beg and plead with Brent to let me bring a camcorder to a gig!!! heheh!!! :D

Your opinion may change by the time you reach your twenties.
