Has anyone played one of these? I saw one somewhere
on the net it was candy red with texas p/u.White neck. I was curious as to what country of origin, sound and playability?Looks like it would be a pretty cool guit. |

I guess all of the James Burton Standards are Candy Apple Red now. Wish they were double bound. They are made in Mexico. I played a used one a while back that was black. It had a fantastic neck and I'm going to order one just because of the neck. They also come standard with Texas Specials I think. I only played it for a half an hour about three months ago so I my tone impressions are probably somewhat inaccurate, but it sounded pretty woody and warm. Not not my ideal Tele tone. I like something brighter. This one sounded like it had the tone knob rolled back a little. I'll probably throw a Chandler in the bridge (or maybe order a Hamel) and put an Esquire pickguard on when I get it. I'll definitely put a 3-saddle bridge on it. They come with a 6-saddle bridge if I remember right.

Here's mine..............
The candy apple red is not your average candy apple red. It has sort of a mottled look............. kind of hard to describe. The Mexican James Burton has a kind of chunky neck. They come with vintage style tuners and a white pickguard. Mine has been changed with Gotoh tuners with pearl buttons, a pearl pickguard and a three saddle bridge. It's pretty sweet!
