You mean like this one...
...actually makes sense, harder to screw up in the heat of battle. Don't know that this particular one would fit though.

Push Push Pots
Hey Ian! I had that site bookmarked but lost it, thanks!
The push push pot looks like a cool thing, I've used the Push Pull pots ( should be called Pull / Push! ) in Strats to add the bridge pu in for extra pu combinations. I'd think it would fit in a Tele, you could always email them and get the dimensions of the unit. How can you tell which position is which you ask? Well depends on what you are using it for, phase reversal would be a very obvious difference on and off, likewise if you were doing some type of series / parallel wiring. Hey if you are in the "heat of battle" just keep playing , it won't matter where you have the controls! |

Seems to me...
...if you cant HEAR the difference when you hit the switch/pot/etc, there ain't no need in wiring it up that way!
I once had a push-pull in the tone pot position of a MIJ CAR 62RI with a Strat middle pickup. IIRC, when the pot was pulled, it turned on the middle pickup, independent of switch position. So with a standard 3-way switch, you got: 1) N, pull for N+M 2) N+B, pull for N+M+B 3) B, pull for B+M My only problem was I kept fumbling when I went to pull the pot out, and then would mess up the tone setting when I smacked it back in. I have enough problems with basic right hand technique, so that guitar didn't stay with me long.

Installation report! (good news/bad news)
As said above, I ordered the Allparts push-push pot for my archtop with the broken phase splitter switch.
The good news...yes works fine and my guitar is back and working again. Delivery was fast...nice to deal with Allparts. The bad news - The construction of this switch ain't too hot. It's a mini-size potentiometer which isn't bad but, the housing is aluminum so, I wasn't able to solder a ground connection directly to the pot. Instead, I wrapped a braided bit of wire around the post, soldered it solid and left a tail loop as a grounding location. Second, the terminals are VERY delicate little pins. It's NOTHING like your typical potentiometer where there are nice heavy-duty loops to solder to. Also, the switch contacts to solder to are extremely close to one another so you have to be careful not to short things. When I reinstalled the switch into the archtop (no trivial feat by the way) the wires twisted and the contacts shorted. I had to back everything out again, seperate the wires, and reinstall. Not fun!...working inside a tele wouldn't be anywhere as frustrating. I was going to replace both of the switches rather than just the one broken one but after completing one pot, forget it! I'll leave the other as a backup. That said, I really think this switch's application is better suited to using inside a stompbox...where the wires are little and easy to work with.
