Welcome Jody. I just discovered your you tube vids yesterday(thanks to
TDPRI member Telechallenge), and today I find you're a new member here. Talk about serendipity. Fantastic playing my friend! A question for you; your tone in this clip just knocks me out. Is there any way to get that great sound (specifically the bridge pickup tone in the first minute of the vid) at bedroom, small practice amp levels? Practicing would be a lot more fun if I could hear that fat growling tone. again, welcome to the TDPRI p.s. I ask here instead of in a personal message in case anyone else may be interested in your answer. |

Thats Great!!!!
You could get that tone in a bedroom level by having a small (Pro Jr. maybe) amp and a nice distortion pedal (Analogman King Of Tone) notice how he helps control his tone with his volume control...

Glad I'm not the only one that loves Jody's tone and playing. Great play, teacher, and truely nice guy.
He is the reason I bought a guitar. I think a lot of us would be interested in perhaps his set up for these lessons with the tele and some info on it. Jody? Inquiring minds like to know. For anyone else interested, I will be taking online lessons with Jody as I learn. He makes it really easy to work with him. I'll let everyone know how the experience goes. He also has a DVD and book coming out in the Fall. Can't wait to get it. Thanks Blonde52 for the thread. |

To blonde52 (and everyone else...)
I did that shoot with a Peavy Classic 30 at a very reasonable volume....we don't crank it in the studio because of bleed into the little clip-on mike for my voice.
I dialed up the dirtiest sound (you can't get dirtier with the volume and tone knobs of the guitar, just cleaner) with the pre-amp and master volumes on the amp, then all the other tones came from turning down the guitar! The Custom Shop NoCaster that I'm playing has a special (stock for that guitar) something-or-other in the wiring tha allows you to retain high end as you turn down.....then if it's too thin, you just roll off a little! Thanks for the interest, guys!!!! |
