Best bang for the buck - $300

Not in the market, just a hypothetical question I think about sometimes...

Let's say you could spend $300 on an electric guitar - new or used - and not a penny more. What would be the best bang for the buck? Any "best kept secrets" in the used guitar market?

Doesn't have to be a tele, but it can be...

I like the squire line of guitars and basses ...The Squire Strat I bought for around $149. So for $279 you can get : Squier Deluxe Strat Electric Guitar ....New ..............This way if its stolen, you are not out say $1500 or more for replacement costs..................

The CV50's were $300 when they first came out after the Feb price increase in 2009 they went up to $350.

Ive seen used ones sell here for $200.

You would be hard pressed to find a better deal for the $$.

a used Fender standard MIM telecaster...

i test ride alot of teles and when it comes to value vs price

its my top pick...

for $300, you have a good shot of finding one with
common improvement mods (pups, bridge, nut)

or

any Hagstrom reissue, alot of guitar for the money
i bought a super swede for $350 on CL
has coil splitting, 25.5 scale neck
very thin neck
best sounding guitar i ever owned

Btw, I paid $300 or so for my first electric - an Epiphone LP100. That was NOT the right answer ;-) Holy crap, did that guitar suck. The pups were horrible and it didn't stay in tune.

I might nominate the new Jet King model from Ibanez:

Haven't played one yet, but it sounds great and it's supposed to have a chunky neck (my preference).

Yup,$300 for my modded 2006 MIM Strat (jumbo frets, SD hotrail, rear route/no pickguard) which is now for sale 'cause I've got a gig switching back to bass.

Easy to guess the CV50 responses were coming--for good reason, of course. For new, there are some very nice looking guitars at Rondo...whichever flavor you prefer: Strat, Tele, LP, SG, V, even PRS. It's page 12 on the website before you crack the $300 ceiling. Agile guitars are well regarded in many circles--certainly for the price. Their Les Pauls are absolutely gorgeous and virtually irresistable.

+1 on Rondo/Agile. I bought a SJM-62 a few months ago, and it's a terrific guitar for the $. Trem ,tuners, pickups, and neck are all very good (much better than I expected). Definitely turns heads, too...

I'd also think you could find a used Godin SD-22 for around $300. That's a great, U.S.-made guitar at that price.

$300 could get me a nice old Ibanez Roadstar. Maybe an old Aria.

MIM and MIJ Fenders are generally out of the $300 range where I am and anything cheaper than those just wouldn't be a keeper ("keepability" is part of the 'bang' for me).

I'd cast my vote for a used MIM Standard Strat or Tele...but I have to say, I've been awfully intrigued by these ever since I saw them:

The JET KING is great!!! Never palyed one but seen it live and it does rock!!!

(the band is portuguese but just hear the guitar and forget the lyrics)

The guitar is the jet king II and it has two rocker switches for splitting the humbu\ckers into singlecoils...the best of 2 worlds...it would be a nice mod for a humbucking telecaster...this guitar is not depreciating I think...

I tired a jet king and the workmanship was horrible. Sorry as it does look killer. Sent it back but I did get a fixed bridge Ibanez RG for 300.00 play it all the time.

Love my jet king.Got it for $199 new, swapped out the pickups for GFS Liverpool Hots (awesome chimey tones) and slapped a tremolo on it. Really fun guitar for just about $300.Build quality is very good for the price, especially the neck.

I have a very low action on mine ,put 8's on it and still no fret buzz.Cant be bad .My P90's are good too .http://http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Guitar-SX-Richwood-Telecaster-Thinline-vintage-styl-NEW_W0QQitemZ180469784280QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar ?hash=item2a04d65ed8#ht_2826wt_1032

Easy...

Yep, easy one...

Classic Vibe Telecaster,

50's classic is a no brainer!! honestly I believe it to be the best guitar in that price range, PERIOD.

the thinline rocks and soon you will find them used. the thinline is simply amazing also.

i am ordering the custom, and from what i've read i expect the same quality.

so for my opinion.. and for OBVIOUS reasons. any of the Classic Vibe Telecasters....
