My first guitar had its 20th birthday today!

Back in late 1989 I started playing guitar. I loved it. I was borrowing a cheap-o guitar from a friend, so I begged for my own guitar that year for Christmas.

My dad and I went to the shop and we found an Applause Strat copy for about $200 that I liked. My dad saw the Japanese Fenders for a bit more money, I think $325. he suggested that I just get one of those over the lesser name guitar. I of course said yes. I looked around, and the Teles were the same price as the Strats, and I liked the look more. I picked out a black and white Tele with a maple neck, and we put it on hold.

We came back and picked it up on the way to my Granparent's house for X-Mas eve. Since then it's been to hundreds of shows, had nearly every part replaced one, two, or three times, and generally has been a great and constant friend.

It's true how they become old friends-if they could talk think of the stories they could tell! My old Strat had it's 40th with me last year, and at one point everything had been replaced except the body, the pickguard and one tone pot. She now sports her original neck tho!
