5 hole? 8 hole Pickguards? Telecaster Highway One.

What's the difference & is one preferable over the other?

I just bought a Fender Highway One Telecaster & it came with a 8 Hole Pickguard but in looking for upgrades I'm seeing 5 hole guards as well?

What's the deal?

Appreciate any & all input.

Welcome to the tdpri! The only difference is the number of holes. The old ones were 5 hole. When some of them warped, came loose etc, fender started putting 8 holes on them. I'd go with whatever you think looks better.

I see.

Excellent! Thank you so much for the clarifaction.

I was concerned that there were some of the electronics actually rigged to the pickguard like on the Stratocaster.

Really appreciate you clearing this up for me.

I do like the 5 hole ones a lot better.

Well another thing is that most 5 hole pickguards are only 1 ply while most 8 hole pickguards are 3 ply. There are acceptions. Some pickguards have neck pickup mounting screw holes while others have the neck pickup mouted to the body.
