Value of '59 Esquire w/ some problems...?

Hi all. I'm looking at a '59 Esquire. Yes, it's my dream guitar, but this one has some issues.

Main one is routing under the guard. It was routed for a P-90 in the neck position and a single coil pu in the middle position. So at one point it had three pu's.

The bridge pu is still there and is original.

The guard is not original. The bridge is not original. Tuners may be (I have to look into this). Not sure about the jack and pots, but the seller says they are original (I will of course look at them!).

The finish is original. The rosewood neck looks great.

Any idea of market value? The guitar is listed at $7000. I'm thinking more like $5000, if that.

Thanks a lot for any opinions.

The question of price always brings out a *heated* debate on the forums. I agree 5k is about right. My opinion is based on what I observed at the recent guitar shows (Arlington and Philly) at the end of 2009, together with actual sales on ebay (not asking prices). Based on my (limited) info, I would say that an ALL ORIGINAL 1959 esquire in 8.0 condition with an original correct case would currently sell for 13k. And I'd say the issues you mention take it down to 5k - and I assume there's no original case. Add 1k if it has the original case.

5K is about right. You might even offer him 6K if the guitar really speaks to you.

Unless that is your Birth year Guitar...I just think of the Quality Tele you could have built w/ the very Best of components for easily half that price...5 K for a non-original Guitar just seems a Tad nutty to me ?
