NGD! '09 MIM Standard, LPB
I referenced this guitar in another post or two around here, but here are some pics.
My wife got me this as a an early Christmas present. Really nice guitar--sounded fine right out of the box in all truth--I *really* like the neck--a very nicely tinted finish, comfortable C neck. The satin finish on the neck is reminds me exactly of the finish on my Am Dlx V Neck Strat. The LPB finish is very nice and well done--I always liked this color, in fact used to have a couple CIJ offsets in LPB. The 3-ply parchment/modern 8-hole guard which looks quite good against the finish. After checking her out and making sure everything was ok, I went ahead and took the strings off, and swapped the bridge for a Wilkerson vintage-style bridge with the compensated saddles. This was aesthetics more than anything, as the 6-saddle bridge that came with the guitar is a very nice unit, the saddles appearing much "beefier" than the Squier Std I used to have. But, I liked the Wilkerson on my Rice, and for $25, what the heck, it was an easy swap. I know this has come up from time to time, but the Wilkerson fits just fine with no mods necessary. The string holes match up perfectly. There's a slight indentation in the finish adjacent to the lower edge from the original bridge being screwed in pretty tight, and just the barest peak at the pickup rout, also on the lower edge. Neither is noticeable when playing, and I doubt I'd notice either of those things if I hadn't put the bridge on myself. The little edge of the pickup rout is less than the gap on my '52AVRI. I put a set of D'Addario 9s on (the guitar comes with 9s, so I decided to keep the strings the same for now, as I didn't feel like screwing with the TR right away). They sound good, but I suspect I may go ahead and change her to 10s after a bit. I also put a set of Schaller locks on and added a nice Jodi Head strap. My original plan was to mod this down the road a bit with a HB in the neck, but it will be after Christmas before I can afford to go pickup shopping. In the mean time, I think the stock pups sound really good. |

She's a beaut. And the guitar is nice, too!
I'm baffled, as to why this color has not taken our Board by storm. Really looks fetching. Check out the new Europe only Classic Player Baja in LPB for possible mod ideas. Although it really needs nothing. But a Mint Green pickguard would be cool! Last edited by boris bubbanov; December 10th, 2009 at 08:49 AM.. |

I really like that LPB. Does it annoy you that she might have paid full price? Sometimes I hate to think about what some of the people that have bought me guitar stuff have paid without knowing. (Kind of a side thought. I honestly dont mean to knock your gift, I think thats a really nice looking guitar man! Probably one of my top 3 fav. colors)

I'm sure some might have found a better deal, but I didn't think the price shipped seemed unreasonable for this guitar. It was just the Fender 10% discount over the holiday. I looked at a couple sources I'd done business with before, and this appeared to be pretty much the norm. BB--I'm right with ya on the mint green. I did mint green covers on both my CIJ offsets with LPB finishes. This gal is a work in progress...the original intent was to do a HR conversion with a nice set of matched pups including a HB in the neck. When I get to that point, the guard will definitely be MG!! VERY pretty. I really dig that on a tele. Agave is beautiful too, as Blueshawk1 said.
I have plans for an Esquire build, and LPB wasn't at the top of my list....but it's creeping ever higher. Beautiful guitar. Enjoy!

Oh, yeah. Olympic White at $ 200 less is an easy choice. Olympic White at only $ 50 less? I might get the LBP as, despite the piles of Teles I have, I can't get the blue one I'm assembling to look right and so I have ZERO blue Teles to play.

[quote=jwl325;2177458]No worries Trem...as it happens "she" would be "me" as far as the ordering goes...my wife asked me what I wanted, I told her, so she said go ahead and order it.
I'm glad you didn't get stiffed full price! Maybe its hard to blame most retail businesses, but some of the folks are sharks and are not very human. |
