American Standard 1992 Body

Hello, I have a '92 Standard Tele, Serial Nr. N1.....
The natural body is build with 3 pieces and with a laminated front and back with a natural piece. My question, is that an original body? Build Fender this kind of bodys in the past ? Thanks and regards

I guess I'm not surprised that Fender built a Standard with 3 pieces and a laminated top an bottom, but I am surprised they finished it in natural. I thought this construction method was usually used for sunbursts, or opaque finishes, where the joins are hidden by the paint.

Are there any signs of paint in the neck pocket or pickup and control cavity routes which may indicate that someone refinished it?

Hello, there are some signs in the neck pocket, but there are unreadable. The routes for the pickup and for the cable and also the srew for the neck adjustment are similar like 92'body. Furthermore the body is a very light weight. the complette telie has 6.7 lbs Thanks and regards

I bet it was originally a Sunburst finish. It is a Fender body and it has micro tilt.

My guess is also that it originally had a sunburst finish that someone refinished in natural.

If you contact Fender by email and send them the serial number, I think they can confirm that for you.

You'll find out something about the neck, but not necessarily anything about the body that it happens to be bolted on right now.

My guess is also a stripped and refinished sunburst. Fender never made a natural finish AS in that manner.

I would concur with the others....Most everything looks as it should, but I'll bet it was stripped and refinished by a previous owner...probably a Nice Light Tonefull Tele.

It looks the exact same as a refin I did on a Strat of mine... that matte finish looks like spray can lacquer to me. That's not to say it's not an American body, just that it's definitely not the original finish.

Cheers,
D

In that era during the nineties Fender was making their Am Stds guitars with veneer tops because the veneer was more resistant to having the paint sink into the woodgrain of an other wise non veneered top.Dealers at the time were very picky about the guitar's appearance and this is also why thick finishes were popular at the time...to make the surface appear flat and shiny. In 2000,Fender discontinued the veneer due to the increasing demand for a more vintage style construction and lately the finishes have been getting thinner as people are starting to demand a more tone conscious design.
