Telecaster - no serial number - what is it?

A guy is selling a Telecaster. He claims to have no idea about the origins of this guitar.

On the headstock, it say 'Fender' only - it does not have the more traditional 'Telecaster' script or the 'made in X-country' . The only other script is the usual 'original Contour Body - patent pending' mark near the top of the headstock.

Back of the headstock is blank

Main body of guitar has not serials or other script

I am trying to figure out where this guitar comes from. Was there a period where Telecasters were produced in this fashion?

Anyone have any ideas??

Cheer

JD

Major Red Flag on the Original Contoured Body...Teles don't use that.

I've never seen that on a Tele; only on a Strat

RED FLAG!!! Aftermarket (i.e. fake) Strat decal!! Not a "proper" Tele neck IMHO! May be a scam here!

Ha. I was thinking this maybe the case, but wasn't ready to float accusations...

Once again the Tele forum comes through!

Thanks for the education

I think it's just all wrong. Apart from the headstock decal, I've never seen tuners like that on a Tele and I've never seen the 12th fret dot markers so widely spaced!

My guess is that's it's a (poor) Chinese copy. I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole!

Did Fender, or any licensed by Fender after market parts makers, ever make a neck with the position markers spread as far apart as the ones on the 12th fret of this neck. I have poor eyesight but from what I can see they look like they are completely on the edge of the neck.

He's dancing around a lot in the Description...but it is definitely not a Fender.

Squier 51 Tele?! http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Squier-51...%3D5%26ps%3D63

Is it some sort of genuine evil Hybrid, they call a "51" Tele?

Who was the fool who took that bid from $75 up to $140?

I just sent it to the Fender legal department!! This is why I get so ticked off at the modding...it IMO is part of the reason our guitars get expensive....sorry fellas just venting!

What we got here is "Failyah to Communicate" . . .the truth... the "Fender" decal on the headstock is too small... ain't no reason to go any further,

The Fender logo looks like a tatoo.

I did make contact with the seller - he seemed genuine enough - just didn't know what he had, and had been unable to find any info from the forums he had approached.

I told him WHY it wasn't a Fender, pointed out what was wrong, and suggested that he changed his listing to a lower price, but as usual, ONE sucker bid right at the death and bid the full asking price ($320 Canadian).

Someone's going to be VERY angry when that sucker arrives, but hey - that's eBay for you....

There's one born every minute...

I reported it to ebay on Friday, as a potentially fraudulent listing, explaining why. If they give a toss , they might stop the payment.

I note that his listing has removed any mention of Fender.

It's one of Squier's original design.... I believe it's called as "Squier 51" without "Tele"

partscaster.

320.00 final bid. probably good for both parties... not a fender.

the squier? wrong terms... and those got blown out for 99.00... but they have been creeping up in price for awhile....
