$799 too much for a Fender American Fat Tele?

I put my 2000 Fender American Fat Tele on ebay with a BIN of $799 thinking it would sell right away but all I get is email from people asking me to sell it to them for $625 or $700. Is $799 too high a price to ask for this guitar?

You might get 800...people are just low-balling you. Wait it out, friend! You'll probably get what you're asking.

If you don't wanna wait it out sell it to me! I'll give ya 650 out the door!

(Yes, that's a low-ball too but the difference is I don't have much money to play with!)

Check how many people are watching the auction. A lot of people watch and then wait until the last minute to make a bid or buy.

I sold the same guitar in sunburst for 800.oo a year ago. It'll go, I think they are lowballing you. Btw the neck was good on mine, but it didn't sound like a tele to me. I left it stock and CL'd it.

Why put such a long auction time on things when everybody knows all the action happens in the last 2 minutes...6 days to wait? Too likely to find something else to like before that one counts down.

I suppose but a week also gives lots of people a chance to see it which will likely push the price higher.

Well be careful. I wanted to cancel an eBay auction I had a while back (Vox AC4TV) because I sold the thing locally and it wouldn't let me because there was less than 24 hours to go. There's a lot of rules and they aren't always explicit so if you do decide to keep it you should decide sooner rather than later.

Though it is true ebayers tend to wait until the last moment to bid, that is not the case with BIN type auctions, as for those timing makes no difference. So for BIN-only auctions, the longer the time period, the greater the chance of it selling.

For true auctions without BIN, I still think it makes sense to do 7 days . . . gives more people a chance to see it and bid. If they are interested in it, they will "watch" it and note the auction end time . . . you wont lose that many folks who are really interested, specially if in either case they have to wait - whether 3 days or 6 days. And the more people you got bidding, the better chance of getting a higher bid.

I like to start auctions on Saturday, and end after 7 days. That way, most bidders are not at work when it finishes. But then again, I have only really sold a few things on ebay, so what the heck do I know?

Actually I had started an auction on Saturday but I had to correct some mistakes in my auction and the way Ebay is set up now it is harder to make changes than it used to be so I decided to close that auction and relist it with the corrections. I have a reserve and a Buy it Now price so if it reaches the reserve fine and if someone chooses to buy it now even better.I think it is a really cool guitar but not everybody is looking for a tele with a humbucker in the neck and a 5 way switch.

I hate to be the one to break the News to Ya,...but this hasn't been a "Sellers Market" concerning Guitars or many other things for over a year.
