Just putting it out there... double-cut Tele?
Guys,
at the risk of upsetting some of the more traditional members here I was just thinking about body shapes and how the enduring ones are 50+ years old... Now don't get me wrong Has anyone tried to do this before? (and please no-one say 'duuuh yeah, it's called a Strat!') I think it'd be pretty fresh! |

Bill Wharton (aka The Sauce Boss) plays a '53 that had been hacked that way (it was that way when he got it, apparently)... wicked guitar...

Yeah, I find them really ugly.
How about a single-cutaway Strat? I remember seeing a no-cutaway Les Paul Custom that some jazz guy kept strung with .013's as the "sit-in" guitar at his gigs, the encourage people to leave the stage quickly.

This is an extraordinarily nicely done guitar, which I like very much. Newtwanger's Proto is actually neater that 95% of the double cuts out there. But, the double cut is IMO not to be recommended because unless you are very gifted as these 2 guys are, your net result is gonna be, uh. Let me just say there are other shapes I like better. IMO, YMMV, all those warningisms we use.

In my opinion the concept and the look trumps so many of those other ill-conceived butt-ugly things that appear on the guitar market at regular intervals. Sure Fender isn't in the league of Gibson when it comes to that, but something like a doublecut Tele isn't very far out, and would be light(er) than a standard issue Tele.
Peace, Mike. |

A few months ago I entertained the idea of making something like this. I found the single cut version on the net, ( most likely on this site ) and then photoshoped it a bit. Sort of a Tele-335. I may still try it down the road.

I genuinely never saw a DC Tele before. I really like newtwanger's proto, and ReVintage your guitar's executed with some panache too. Not sure I like the maroon thing from Fenner tho! |

I'm building a pair for a guy in Maryland.

I dig the port holes. But could you even call this Tele-esque? Twin humbuckers and a T-O-M bridge?

I like them, especially for an otherwise non-traditional Telecaster style guitar. I am planning to build one with Lawrence/Wilde L500s and a USACG neck. I have most of the parts, so it is just a matter of getting to it.
Going to paint it Ford Black Jade ('69 color), sort of a tribute to my first car. Will be my first attempt at routing a neck pocket, and binding. I have plenty of wood so if I mess it up, I can always start over. Usually I don't go for the double bound, shiny paint look, but for some reason it seems right for this one. |

Tha vast majority of guitars pictured in this thread do not have tele pickups and bridges.

I thought I would hate this idea in the flesh/wood but NO... I like the pictures I've seen here, very much. Very much indeed.

Squier put out a line 2 or 3 years ago with some silly finishes/wiring called something like the "Hard player," or "musician series." It was a double cutaway that looked like tele specs with a symetrical headstock. It looked like a cross between a double cutaway tele and the ibanez artist series.
