Now THAT is a beautiful guitar! Congratulations!....
Y'know, if that guy Ron Kirn keeps on practising, he has the potential to be a mighty fine guitar maker when he gets older... Heh heh! GREAT work, Ron, as always. Someday, before I retire, I'm gonna have you make one of those beauties for Ol' Fatman. Let's hope we BOTH stick around that long!...

Cripes! This Kirn guy is the man to watch!
Nice guitars. I assume they play just as good as they look.

Mine's just shy of 8 lbs on my not very accurate bathroom scale. The neck is fantastic. Thick, maybe a few mms short of a nocaster and here is where (my opinion) mr kirn shines. The way it's rolled/shaped/finished/fretted... it feels and plays so comfortably. Even players who first pick it up that aren't tele players go at first - wow, that's a baseball bat. Then a few minutes later they go 'wow, this is so easy to play'. I choose to think that the neck has a lot to do with the sound of a guitar, and this neck has a great sound in addition to it's feel. The body of course is what makes it a 'barnbuster'. I love the look of it and as you've seen in pics, the grain patterns vary from piece to piece. Also like the 'idea' of it - that it's old, recycled, and that maybe, just maybe some of the sound of the guitar IS because it's 'almost dry' as Ron puts it. I use 11s, it intonates dang near perfectly. I like the action a bit higher than most (like the strings to have a little fight in 'em and some height for slide) so I did raise it up from where Ron had it set. Only thing I've done to the guitar outside of fresh strings now and again. The other Tele got sold, this guitar went into permanent rotation - it's it and one other model for every gig now. The saying "Might get different - don't get better" keeps coming to mind with this axe. It's a ridiculously outstanding guitar - and at this price, it's a downright steal. ... Just my 2 cents. Did I mention I like it? |
