Potvin El Camino...Esquire meets TV Junior !

http://www.potvinguitars.com/el_camino.html

This thing actually looks very cool!
St. Blues mixed the Tele/Les Paul Jr. thing way back in the mid 80's, but this one does it even better IMHO. I'm not affiliated with Potvin in any way, just thought it was a neat idea. Wonder how it sounds with the Gibson scale?

Well.. It doesn't really remind me of the St.Blues models so I don't think I could compare the two. But thease really looked nice, but were a bit pricey. I'd like one tho.. And then another.. and another... and..

Look at the other model, the Ranchero. Still a Jr./Tele mix, but in the opposite ratio. Both very cool axes.

It reminds me a lot of the ESP hybrid model.

Which later came with a more Gibson style neck and construction.

Interesting that the El Camino model with the Tele-style bridge/pickup has a brass nut, and the Ranchero style with P-90 and hardtail bridge has a bone nut. I'd like to A/B those to hear the differences. Cool guitars, I think.

I like it too - especially the TV Yellow model!.....

But $1900?......

I'm afraid I don't like it THAT much!......

Boo-teek, and made from scratch. No point in spending all that time if you can't get paid for it. Lots more people get that coin for bolting a musikraft neck to allparts body.

I tried it out at the Montreal Guitar show in July (he's from Ottawa) and loved the neck and build quality. I'd drop coin on that before the poor playing Gibson VOS LP Jr. DC.

I offer both models with brass, bone or graphite nuts. The El Camino does come stock with a brass string retainer instead of string ferrules.

Both the El Camino and the Ranchero are actually $1750 including a hardshell case. (Not shilling, just wanted to clarify ;) )

Thanks! I can't believe its time again already, but I just confirmed my attendance in Montreal again for 2010. If any of you are planing to go (I know it's a loooong way off) stop by and say Hi. I'd love to hear your thoughts after trying them out.

Cool guitars you make Mike.

I tried my hand at making a Tele/Les Paul Junior hybrid but mine was very different.

boris, send me a PM. I have no vested interest in this guitar, other than the fact that I want it!
It is for sale, cheap, right now.
No affiliation.

Mike, your guitars are truly beautiful!

Jason - Jaydawg - Made one just like that gold top when he was making My LesQuire Jr.

I know you guys see it a lot but it belongs in this thread.

Mike, Jason and I talked about the open book headstock, a snake head ,and going with gibson scale neck. But we went Tele scale and neck.

Pine body veneered with rosewood and a solid rosewood neck. pm for details if you need em

Just the LesQuire Jr. that sounds better then it looks.

Mohika, that gold top is awesome! I have a single cut version of the El Camino in the works because I get a lot of requests for the double cut verison with two pickups (which I don't do because of the neck tenon). Actually I have a 2 pickup version of the Ranchero in progress as well (Ranchero Grande!). If you like build threads you can follow along in the workshop section of my website.

Blazer, that looks really nice! Is that mahogany?

That Rosewood looks beautiful and I bet the neck feels great (I love rosewood). I have a solid Indian Rosewood El Camino (an upscale version I guess ) in progress.

RomanS / Straightface: if you like the Ranchero, here's a sneak peak of the wood for the 2 pickup Ranchero Grande I'm working on. So far I have the one piece cocobolo neck ready to carve and I'm about to start on the body. Maybe I should start a build thread here?

Allow me to be the grouchy SOB that I am...Don't like them! No disrespect, just seems like folks are reaching to come up something new in a design context that reached it's limits long ago.

I sorta get where your coming from......

But i gotta say,3-barrel half brige + a single P-90 on a Pine body is to cool...
Simple setup and a thick neck.......Let it rip.

Leo got it right the first time......but its nice to have options.

Southern-I have to admit, that's a clean, and close to the bone, Tele. Does that P90 give it a mello twang...what's the headstock look like?

Thanks so much............

Die hard Gibby scale P-90 freak for many, many years......But I like the tad more spankage of this setup....Really more woody sounding ....It'll twang for sure.....Got some honk full up on the volume and there is a sweet spot 3-4 clicks off on the Vol......Yep,T-style headstock...............the one pictured is long gone.....but got my personal guitar in the works.......Wifey has been on bed rest from surgery and we are off to hopefully get released today,so back to gettin' busty soon !!

You are allowed Sir

They are still beautiful, and deadly, deadly efficient.

And some fine tweaking to my eye - as are some other mighty fine looking home jobs in this thread.

Grump away! No disrespect taken. I really like the tele shape (although you wouldn't believe how many people tell me they don't. gasp!) and I like to tinker with it.

Southern Ill: The planksters look great. Didn't you do a pinstriped one?
