Loud hum!

Just assembled a Tele from parts, body does not have special paint inside cavities for grounding purposes like my other Fenders. Without touching bridge or strings there is a very loud, and annoying hum. What did I do wrong?

I followed some advice from here about sheilding the pickguard with aluminum foil, if the foil touches the neck pickup cover would that cause hum?

Does this mean a bad ground somewhere inside? Would appreciate any comments on this.

Thanks

BTW, stock fender parts all the way.

Do you have a dedicated ground wire from the Volume to the Tone-pot ?

sometimes its enough that they're grounded through the control-plate - sometimes it ain't.

I did just that yesterday. didn't notice the hum that bad until I used the Bad Monkey for some overdrive which made it loud and annoying. I hardly use that Tele.
oh, and it hasn't any shielding paint or such - but it works now.

Have you got the jack socket wires the wrong ways about? That will causes one stink of a bad hum! Also very easy to do.

Thanks guys,

I thought I double checked both of those items, but I'll look again. It is an easy enough mistake.

I'll bet I screwed up the jack connection, I'm hoping that is all it is, not really in the mood for a witch hunt.

Thanks again

Have you checked the outlets and circuits in the room for proper wiring ?
Any dimmer switches on your lights ?...Have you tried it in another room (circuit) ?...Tried another cord ?....etc...etc.

Forgot to mention, 4 other Tele's and a Strat live here, no problem with them, just the newly "Franked" Tele.

The only other thing I did with this one that I haven't done before is the aluminum foil under the pickguard thing. Wich BTW was more of a PITA than it was worth, still get a scratchy sound when I rub my fingers across the pickguard.
