Clicking sound...

Hi y'all, only been playing a short length of time so forgive my ignorance.

The problem is that every time I touch the strings (or any other metal part of the tele) there is a clicking/popping sound. This only seems to happen when the neck pickup is active.

This didn't happen until yesterday (I've had the guitar for 3 months or so) and has been doing my head in.

Any advice would be great

Chris

(I got the CV squier and it's great!!!)

I wonder if you are experiencing static build up in the pick guard. It's happened to me. You can fix that problem by attaching aluminum foil to the back of the guard with spray-on adhesive. You would then have to make sure that the foil is grounded - usually the pots will take care of that problem if they touch the foil.

Some folks give the guard a wipe with a dryer sheet.

If it was a ground problem you would have noticed it the first time you plugged it in.

Id also say its a static problem since the CV's are shielded so well.

Static usually starts with it gets cold and heaters are used that dry out the air and cause static.

Couldn't the ground wire come undone due to bouncing around the guitar and a cold solder joint?

I have the same problem on a partocaster I just put a GFS pickguard on the other day. I thought it was either that the neck pickup cover came unsoldered from the wire, or static electricity. Or both. The more I rub my hand rapidly on the pickguard (as a test) the worse it gets so I think static electricity has something to do with it.

Thats a possibility but if a ground wire did come off it would hum al the time not just when the strings were touched.

Some people put anti-static laundry sheets under the guard, or rub them on the outside of the guard, to fix this problem. If it's mild, breathing on it will make it go away.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Don't know if it makes any difference, but when i said that it seemed to be the neck pickup only the same problems happen with the bridge. There also seems to be a buzz when i'm not touching it. I know there is a certain buzz from single coils but it seems to have gotten louder. Maybe it's just my imagination...

Put the switch in the middle and see if that doesnt reduce the buzz.
