Which bridge
Morning all,
I am in the process of my first build and would appreciate opinions on which bridge to use. The guitar will be a thinline and will have two humbuckers, either TV classics or Kent Armstrong Kentrons if I can find any worthwhile reviews of them (anyone used them?) and one of those Gotoh modern style bridges. What I would like to know is the pros and cons of the strat hardtail style unit versus the unit with the humbucker cutout. I believe the strat style bridge has steel block style sadddles and the tele type has brass, does this make much difference?, does the extra mass of the tele style add much to the sound? Does direct mounting of the pickups into the body make much of a difference? As for looks, I don't mind either but I think the cleaner looks of the strat style bridge looks slightly more elegant and I notice that Fender themselves go for that option more often than not. As always, all opinions welcome thanks Harry |

I seriously doubt you would hear any significant difference...I would choose the one you like based on appearance.

I firmly believe in the brass. My first Tele had a lovely 6-saddle bridge and the guitar did nothing for me for years.
Then I got and old one with 3-saddle bras.... I mean brass. (what would 3 saddle bras even look like?) It was magic! I got a '52 and it was magic also. I put brass on the old one and Tada! Wonderful. All 4 of mine have brass. Two are fender, one is Wilkinson and one Glendale. They're all GREAT! |
