Playing a Tele is like encountering, confronting The Guitar. In its elemental design, you will also encounter yourself. Yes, the Tele can seem truly "unforgiving" but actually what you are hearing is simply the truth. People who for years played mostly Strats especially can suddenly realize that after the journey, sometimes blissful of being lost in a "a lot of playing" the experience that they themselves and The Guitar BOTH exist. Music comes out of this new sense of "bond" that acknowleges separateness. The past seems more like "sonic notions" and what you are "doing" now more like songs.

Hands down THE most versatile guitar on the planet.

My tele-holic issues go back to when I was 5 or 6 years old. My uncle had one. It's the first guitar I ever remember seeing. I didn't get one until many many years later, but that butterscotch colored guitar was always in the back of my mind.
When I did get one, it was like holding a piece of history. That and I just like the way they sound. :o)

Nothing sounds better clean.

Nothing bites and stings like it with overdrive.

Comfortable, simple with complex tones.

What else do you need.

It forces you to play well. It won't do it for you, but when you make it wail nothing else sounds better.

Quickly as you can, snatch the Ernie Ball pick from my hand.

Master Kan, when you can take the Ernie Ball pick from my hand, it will be time for you to leave.

For me ,a Tele plays what YOU want it to .,Other guitars seem to impose a certain sound and style, the thicker sounding pickups carrying the note over more so instead of ringing out ,they muddy up . . You seem to have to adjust .A Tele and a good amp will bring out the best in you .Every note you play will ring clear , and sadly so will the ones you would rather not.

It hasn't been two days yet since I plugged in my first-ever tele. It's a mahogany partscaster with a wide ebony fretboard, fat neck, black hardware, tung-oil finish. I assigned my "Surfpick" to it, and I'm happy with that so far. I already crashed it once, hit the fence doing 180, and knocked a small chunk out of it, right in the middle of the belly cut. Road worn, like the brand-new crew cab pickups they use around here, the "crummies" the loggers ride to work in. They said these things are tough. I believe it. I named her "Simple".

This is the finest guitar I have ever played, the easiest to play, the hardest to play. It's making me better. I can't stop playing, except every now and then to stare at it: what a beautiful thing. Those cool barrel saddles remind me of old motors my grandpa used to have, with their valve assemblies exposed above the cylinder heads.

I've gotten absorbed in guitar playing before, but this is different. This guitar has so many voices. . .it even sounds good unplugged, early in the morning. I've told everyone I know about it, showed everyone at work. They all give me the look I give people when they show me pictures of their kids. Nice.

I love this guitar.

A Telecaster is what a electric guitar should be...a simple design that doesn't "color" the guitar player's musical ability.
...the "New York, New York" of electric guitars..."if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere"!

Does anyone know if Carlos Santana plays/played a tele. Also, if there are any tunes one can hear to provide an understanding of the difference in sound (I know it's not small) between a tele and a strat?

You have no idea, how many images of sunburst alder Fender Teles with black pickguards I took before I finally got this shot. I just sorta reached over and "snap". Very proud of that image.

Find MYSELF looking at the image on the web when the guitar is right in the next room.

:^)

Because like Life itself, it is a hard but also very good teacher: much unforgiving, makes you learn to be very patient and that you only can have success if you keep on working very hard while never giving up to reach your goals.
A Telecaster is no convenience-guitar like a Gibson, PRS and most of the other electrics on the market.
Often you even have to wrestle it to get from it what you want - but on the other side it is very rewarding, puts your playing efforts on a new, a higher level if you occupy yourself with handling and mastering a Telecaster long enough. It gives you an experience like no other guitar in the whole world can do.

Great...thanks for catching on to the tongue-in-cheek...

You must be very in touch with your inner Keith Richards...

I went to my friends for a rehearsal/jam, and he had this Ibanez, and he was running it thru this super effects unit. I had my standard tele, and he says "You can just plug into that; being a Marshall. And you know what? My Tele straight into a Marshall tore the Ibanez a new ass and handed it to it.

That's why I LOVE Fender Telecasters, and I'm looking forward to getting out on the road with my Baja Tele too :)

Aside from what many others have said, you take throw it in a gig-bag, drag it all over the place, and she comes out in-tune and ready to go.
