I played the American Std. The Texas HW1 and the regular HW1 and settled on the regular HW1. It just spoke to me, the neck is fantastic, I love the frets and the look is classic. Cost was a factor as was the color. I wanted a blond and I didn't really like the look of the natural, not knocking it, just not for me.

The Am Standard has a tough finish, there are many examples to choose from, and up until now it has had robust resale value. And I like the fretsize and the neck pickup.
The Texas Tele has a cooler body finish, a much preferred bridge design (over the Std), the builders tended to find and use the light ash bodies FMIC production was getting, and the tuners are way, way better. But it is rare - never seen 2 at the same time, ever. Hard to wheel and deal on scarce models. BTW, in my opinion a stock regular Highway One is not a substitute. Super sized frets and the pickups are basically my least favorite Fender pickup. I see you did not actually ask, but just in case the price tugs at you.

Hey Chet,
I have a HWY 1 Tele and a standard...love both..call me crazy but I love the frets on the HWY 1...the way I play it really fits my style. I got the Honey Blonde and just love this guitar!! I would say get the one that speaks to you! |

I've got the older run Honey Blonde and love it. I did take some Maguiere's 2X to it to gloss up the body. It looks and plays like a million bucks. It's my #1.

I tried several American Standards, several Bajas, and one Texas HW1, and there was never any doubt after I tried the Texas HW1 - this guitar spoke to me immediately. I love the finish, the neck, and I find the tall frets very comfy for my playing style.
