Barncaster slowly coming along

I bought the body last Christmas. I recently got the neck, neck plate, bridge, control plate and pickguard through eBay. I'm still debating what pickups I'll put in.

I thought I was going to put a Seymour Duncan BG-1400 lead stack in the bridge but I'm not so sure anymore. I think I'm slowly drifting toward Lollar pickups. Probably Lollar Alnico 3 neck and bridge pickups.

I will put in Planet Wave autotrim tuners. These are unbeatable for restringing rapidly a guitar and they work flawlessly. I always try to put something off the wall in my guitars and for this one, I'll probably put two Keith banjo detuning pegs on the low E and A strings, as in this pic:

Here's the Barncaster so far:

FYI, the Barncaster is made with wood recovered from a Montana barn...

Nice, but why the Strat neck? Did you have the pickguard done custom?

Awesome work! Is that a gray poly stain or did you somehow keep the original aged wood color?

The body look pretty cool. How about some pics without the bling.

It's a tele neck...

It's a reliced pickguard I bought on eBay. I really wanted something that looked vintage yellow.

I vote no pickguard on that bad boy....do I get a vote? Maybe use 100 old rusty nails to form a pickguard. That's just too unique to cover with a pickguard IMO.

That looks great!!! My next build is going to be a barncaster.

I think a rusted tin pickguard would look great on a Barncaster.

Looks great ! That's gonna look amazing when you get it completed !

I did one like that a while back, but I cut a pickguard out of tin and aged it to accent the "barn" look !
