With a tele with nice frets. how long until repair is needed?

i have a cs nocaster. i do have a b/g bender on it but the frets are 3 years old. with only about 2 heavy years of playing. i need a crown and polish due to groves caused by the g string. i guess the bender is like a saw motion. but how long of heavy playing will frets last. and is $125.00 a good price for a crown, level and polish with set up?

I paid $70 when I took in my Hot Rod because the neck pup position was not engaging, I asked my Luthier to check the guit out and string it with 10s(had been set up for 9s) and check that the neck was OK with the 10s and did not need an adjustment. And for him to do a setup while he was at it.

It ended up that nothing was wrong with the switch and the knob had just been smooshed down and was blocking the switch from engaging .

He spent maybe a little over an hour on it. I would say your Luthier is probably figuring on about 2 hours of his time to do the job. If that is the case I would say it is a fair price.

$125 ain't bad if thats for a certian amount of check-ups there after......

What I mean by that is this......Once its done and setup for you,you should get at least a years worth of free "checkups" not incuding strings. I do a year of "check ups" and then $40 once a year there after on original frets.........You run out of frets.....or a re- neck....its gonna be another $100 for the first crown, level and polish and setup.

How long frets last depends on style and the player........Some will disagree with my policy....but I think it pretty fair.

I do the fretwork for the local shop here and I charge $100 for a level, crown, polish, and setup. $125 certainly doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
