New 72 Deluxe Thinline
So my new thinline came in this morning and it is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately my love affair quickly ended as soon as I plugged it in and realized that something was very wrong. Using the pickup selecter switch, the neck and bridge pickups worked fine on their own, however, only the neck pickup would work in the middle position. After toggleing the switch back and forth I got both picups to work in the middle position, but then the neck pickup would not work in the neck position. There were a couple of times if I turned the volume to 10 on the neck I could hear a faint sound, but not much at all. So...does this sound like a pickup issue or selecter issue. Also, should I just send it back and get another one or bother with getting it repaired locally and reimbursed? Just curious.

Make sure you have all tone and volume knobs turned all the way up, I had the same thing happen to me and was worried until I noticed I didn't have them all up. If it still happens it is probably the switch in which case I would send it back for another if it is new. I have that same guitar and I love it! Some do some don't, for me I love it. They are known for crappy switches. Anyway, congrats on the guitar and post some pics when you get it straightened out

Thanks for the advice. It's a bit wierd though as sometimes when I toggle the switch, I can hear the neck pickup rining out for a split second. I do love the look, just can't really tell if I love the sound. I was going back and forth between this and a couple of others. I guess if MF puts this or something else I really wanted on Fender Friday I will just pick it up before my replacement is sent back.

I got a replacement on the way. I have to say, the pickups sounded great on their own, I just wish I could have heard them both together. I absolutely love the look of this thing. I just need to find a black pickguard for it.

Ok, I know I have posted 3 times in a row on this...but I think I have found the problem.
I feel like an idiot for even posting this because I assume this is common knoweledge to all of you more seasoned guitarists. The volume controls don't act as "independant" controllers of the pikcups when in the middle position. Meanin, you have to have some volume on both of them in order to have any volume from either. A little confusing but the LP's work the same way. If this is correct, the only issue that I have with this guitar now is that I have to turn the B string tuner forever before it rotates...but that should be fixable. I love the sounds I can get out of this, the best I can descrie it is an angry sounding Tele. I'm glad, because I missed out on the Fender Friday Nashville Tele deal from last week and was bumbed about it all weekend. |

Yeah, That's what I was saying, I had the same thing happen to me and I thought the switch was bad, then I realized I didn't have the volume up for that pickup. I really suspected the switch because the guitar was new to me but used, I got it in a trade. Glad you figured it out! Like I said, I love mine, Post some pics if you can!
