Buying a New Tele - Help Please!
Okay, i've had an epiphone sg for over a year now and i'm well and truly over it. The weight balance (neck far too heavy) was completely wrong and I simply couldn't play it.
Now, i've decided I want to purchase a new Fender Telecaster. I have a few questions though. What would be the lightest, most versatile tele? How much would this weigh? I play alot of indie, pop-punk and powerpop music. I really want a guitar I can throw around as I play those 'spiky' clean chords. I'm sorry for asking probably what seems to you guys as silly questions, but I'm not too technical on guitar specs and things like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :). |

You can't really pick "the lightest" Tele as a model. Wood is a very inconsistant organic material that varies in weight greatly even within a single species.
You need to go out and shop. And remember. If you buy one that's too light, you'll be back to the same problems you're having with your neck heavy SG. There is also a good chance the guitar won't have the 'bite" you're looking for. Shopping for a guitar based on weight is an often misguided venture, especially if you can't play it first. Be cautious and if at all possible, play before you buy! |

I think you try as many as you can, you can tell the real heavy ones, you'll toss those aside, but more importantly you'll find a neck you love and can't put down that has the spank your looking for. I like the 52 RI's and the road worn series. Also if you find a neck you like I think the Baja series is a nice buy.....IMHO

Thanks everyone. :)
Yeah, I just thought specific models were heavier then others - and then I could go from there. I'm looking at the Nashville Telecaster and the Standard Telecaster at the moment, as I'm wanting a Candy Apple Red colour. Thanks all for your help, I'll guess i'll just have to go out and shop around..as hard as that may be :(. |

My personal favorite for versatility is the Nashville. You can't get the neck-and-bridge pickup combination with the standard wiring (you get neck, neck+middle, middle, middle+bridge, bridge), but that's not hard to change if you want to.
