Want a Fender Springsteen style Tele? Here ya go...

This is as close as I've seen from Fender. Change the pickups or maybe add some Gotoh saddles.....and BAM. You've got yourself a Springsteen Tele!

But the copy says "3-ply parchment pickguard"?

It's certainly an 8-hole guard.

Isn't this just a MIM Standard finished in BSB?

Yeah, that parchment detail looks like an error. The 70's style logo and 3 ply 8-hole guard are relevant to that era I guess?

And yes, techincally it is a MIM Standard finished in BSB.....but how often do you see that at under 1k from Fender with an ash body?

For a non sig model, this is dang close IMO.

Bruce's Esquire's entire look rest squarely in it's "beat-upness"

In order for that guitar to even remotely look like Bruce's, the owner would have to do some heavy relicing.

True.

Again, close not exact. IMO, this is more an aproximation of his current era tour guitars, minus relicing, at an affordable price range.

Yeah I guess "from a distance" it looks somewhat close.

I guess this is an FSR (Fender Special Run) that MF commissioned?

I think it looks sweet! I love the butterscotch finish.
I would change to the traditional bridge so you could put the ashtray on!

Yet another of my naive questions: does anyone ever play their Tele with the ashtray cover on? I thought you just put it on for photographs.

Welcome to the forum marley!

Indeed you could do that if you wanted, a vintage bridge is a direct drop in for the Standard line.....

Sure. Doesn't everyone?

Looks good, all I'd do with it is fit a one piece black Pickguard.

Do you need shielded cavities with noiseless pick ups?

Just a quick heads up - the original link posted in the first message is a referral link (it jumps you through another site prior to the Musicians Friend site). It is generally considered improper to post referral links on forums.

Here is a clean link:
(My link deleted because even though the URL put here is clean, it becomes a referral link upon posting).

Regardless of the 'Springsteen vibe', thats one of the better offerings I have seen from Fender. A very strong offering with it's ash body combined with those pickups. Those pickups have that sweet 60s Tele sound and for me, the modern bridge seals the deal. I would have to add the 500k pots for my own personal taste and six barrel saddles in place of the box saddles.

This is about as close as Fender can get competing with SX and Xavier for quality and value and keeping the Fender name on the headstock. You can buy the same guitar for $$ hundres less..minus the pickups from the other Chinese competitors.

Cool guitar, I have one. I swapped to a BridgeWorks 3 saddle W/compensators, I forgot all about the ashtray, must be in the case.

Cinch up your jock when using this axe, it weighs a ton!

Big fan of the Boss! Had to have it!

You mean you already had one delivered ? When did you get/find it...I thought they just came available last week. Any comments on the noiseless pups and ash tone ?

Your "clean" link does the same thing as mine bro, look closer.

Any "referal" link was unintentional on my part. I thought I was copying it straight from the MF website. Apologies to the forum.

I bought one this past summer; I think it's great for the money. Out of the box very easy to play, nice pickups, adequate tuners. The body edges are a tad more round than a Fender's and the neck is real slick (I prefer the satiny type finish). Would love to change the headstock, but for less than $200 it's a keeper.

But that's not even close. Take all of the hardware off and run the body through a planer. Alternatively, you could just tie it to the back of your car and go on I-95 at 70mph. Then you'll be closer to how beat up Springsteen's Tele is.

ok, but I wasn't trying to compare it to "the Esquire" (his main one). But even if you did, a modren radius, med-jumbo frets, modern bridge and modern tuners puts you in the ballpark SPEC wise. Closer than a straight 52 RI would.

To me, this is more of an approximation of his recent modern era touring Teles which have very similar specs.

Throw in a neck humbucker, remove the 6th string/saddle, and you've got yourself a modern Keith Richards style Tele as well.
