The only diff between a Jim Root guitar and a Les Paul is the shape, bridge and scale lenght.

I do believe the OP was referring to true SINGLE COIL, Teles !
i see your point, but that being said scale length makes a bigger difference in tone than body wood on an electric guitar... plus it is made by fender, and is labeled telecaster. true, it may not be a "traditional" tele, but it is a tele none-the-less. plus, with that les paul it may have EMGs but that's not traditionally what Gibson puts in their Les Pauls, yet you call it a Les Paul. How is that different than Fender putting something else in the Tele and calling it a tele?

With such a point of view, i might aswell call this thing (see below) a Tele, just because it has a Tele shape for body w a Fender scale

IMHO, once you take the Tele style ashtray bridge away, you loose that Tele tone.
No Tele tone = No Tele = just another guitar.
And from where i am standing, a Tele must have certain iconic features before you can call it a Tele.

I just did 3 records back to back using the Tele almost exclusively. I could only bring one guitar to the sessions due to extensive travel, so I brought the swamp ash partscaster - 6.5 lbs and incredibly versatile. It covered all the bases, and I mean ALL OF THEM, from country and bluesy classic rock to Van Halen style shred, Edge atmospheres and brutal, crushing techno/industrial.

For the record I mostly used a PTP Tweed Deluxe derivative too:

and given the choice between it and 5 other amps we almost always went back to it.

Now I know what guys mean when they say "all I need is my Tele and a Deluxe". I always thought it was macho BS but they are not just whistling Dixie. It's really true. When you finally grow up that's all you really need.

actually, with my point of view it wouldn't be a tele either... only Fender makes Telecasters. On that note if Fender calls it a tele, it is a tele. If someone else makes one, it is a tele style. Some tele syle guitars are more traditional than some fender teles, but that doesn't mean that it is a tele.

old time
and unless you go for humbuckers, you're going to have a hard time getting the right sound for grind.
