62 RI..string retainer question

When I do a bend between the nut and the tuners on the B and E strings, they want to go slightly sharp and stay sharp. The problem goes away if I eliminate the string retainer. Is this a normal condition? This has the T style retainer.

Have you tried using a bit of graphite or some other lube like Nut Sauce on that string tree and nut?

That's odd...what you're describing sounds like the strings hanging up in the nut slots.Could be that the absence of the retainer makes for less break angle over the nut, therefore less downward pressure from the strings, therefore less friction when you release a bend and the strings more easily slide back over the bottom of the nut slots. If you want to keep using the retainer, try lubing the nut slots.

Some people use a pencil. I just bought the stuff they sell at my local shop, it is white so it does not mark up the nut.

ok...Cleaned and cked and lubed nut. Also added a bit of lube to string and retainer. Performed a full step+ bend at the 10th fret...tuning is spot on..both B and E. Performed a 1/4 to 1/2 step bend behind the nut and instantly goes sharp..again pull strings out of retainer and tuning is spot on again....Help..!

Sounds like too tight slot for string in the nut. If it's too tight, lubing won't help. If you don't have skill (and saddle files) to widen it, take it to guitar repairer.

Is the string retainer straight and in right place? The strings should go straight into tuner, if there's an extra kink due to retainer there it may cause problems. Retainer should just press the string down a bit, not sideways.
