Bill Crook Telecasters
Anyone here ever play a telecaster built by Bill Crook? I recently spoke to him about building a blue/white paisley and he quoted me $2800 which includes the case and shipping. What is everyones experience with his guitars? Are they worth the money? Are they built well? I'm 26 years old and looking to buy a high end guitar and to find something that will outlast me.
I've only heard good things online and the sound clips sound amazing. Unfortunately there is no way for me to play the guitar before I buy so I would have to drop 2800 beans and take a chance which is a little crazy in my opinion. |

EVERY Bill Crook guitar is incredible. I was very fortunate to visit his shop a few times. It is really cool seeing 10 or 12 guitars in various stages. They are the most solid, versatile, and incredible looking guitars there.
Even better than that, he is a great guy overall. |

Chet, How many guitars do you think he has going at any one time? Is he the only one touching the guitars or does he have helpers? |

Bill Crook Tele's
Tele Joe
He is a one man show and the only one touching his guitar's unless they are having a bender installed, they come to me. Bill is very dedicated to his customers needs on each and every guitar and I'm sure you would be very happy. Hey Tele Joe, yeah like I said on my thread, Bill Crook's guitars are amazing. I remember the day I received mine... I had the guitar delivered at my office to make sure that UPS was going to deliver her on that day. when she arrived, I closed my office door to enjoy that moment of discovering her for the first time. I opened the box, and then, really slowly, i opened the case...and there she was! OMG!!! she's beautiful!!! because I was still at the office I couldn't plug her in my amp yet. Went back home after work, opened the case, grabbed the guitar and plugged her in my Dr Z.... wooooooooowwww! I mean really WOOWOWOWOW! I own two other Fender Tele and there is absolutely no comparison, the look is amazing, true, but the sound is incredible! I tried to play my other teles but honestly, the sound is so much better I only use them as a backups in case something happens to my Crook(nightmare!). I'm no Brent mason or brad Paisley, but after each gig, someone comes to me to say that my tone is great...it's all about her! she sounds good in anything.
Just like you, I was 24 (that was last year) when I placed the order to Bill and paid for it with my first paycheck... I bought her for also for the same reasons as yours, this guitar will live longer than me, she and I will share a lot of cool moments in the future, and I hope she'll stay in the family for a long period of time (there is my name on the back of the neck anyway) believe me, if you can, do it! you'll never regret it! It's not like you would buy an expensive fender special edition tele or "custom shop" guitars from guitar center, this one is YOURS! she was made for YOU! according to what YOU want! yeah the wait is long but it's worth it, I promise ;-) plus it's cool to know that the guy that makes Brad Paisley's guitar is the same one that built yours...yeah you are a rockstar too!

Four or five years ago when I got mine, it was perfect, just exactly like I have imagined it, out of the box.
The only surprise was the threaded inserts I found on the neck...and that was a good surprise. $2.8k is a lot of money, I'll give you that, but you can easily spend that much on a Martin, Gibson, or Taylor. Start going custom acoustics and that can be just a drop in the bucket. Only you can decide if it is worth it. Mine was.

That's what I figure. I was looking to get a nice fender telecaster like a 52 reissue or a 52 hot rod but with either guitar i'm so close to the price of the Crook and that's what I really want ultimately. I figure i'll have the guitar for life and you got to think eventually there won't be a Bill Crook around to make guitars but most likely in my lifetime there will always be a fender.

You really would have to have Bill build you one because you never find them used! Nobody sells these things once they get them. Does that tell you anything.
To make it extra special, send it to Charlie McVay for the Bender. |

Yeah I talked to Bill about a bender and he said that he doesn't install them anymore but that I should go to McVay for one. I don't know how much they cost but i'd probably put that off for a little bit so I can recover from the price of the guitar.

I had almost pulled the trigger on ordering a Crooks guitar and talked to him about it. The guitar I wanted would cost me close to 3 grand and I'd have to send him half up front. The wait time was approximately 18 months. I decided I didn't want to front that much money and have to wait that long.
