Pickguard mounted pick up?

I have a tele body that was previously routed for a neck humbucker. I'm told that to go back to a standard tele single coil I have to get a special pickguard and mount the pickup to the guard like a Strat. Is this correct and does it take a special pick guard or will any one work.

Thanks, Bryan

It's been standard to mount the pickup to the pickguard for a long, long time, early 60s, I think. You can find standard tele pickguards with either 5 or 8 mounting holes and with or with pickup screw holes.

If you have a pickguard without mounting holes, it's easy enough to add them. I had to take the dremel to the one I ordered from WD.

Neck P/U mount

All TELECASTERs except for the 70s Hummers were mounted tew the body until 1983-84 and they on the Standard TELECASTER were also body mounted. The American Standard became the pickguard mount of note after that.

The choice is a tuff one in your case.

The easy way out is the pickguard mounted style as the body mount may or may not be the easy way ta dew witt.

With the body mount and a deep hummer route yew will need longer #4 (or 5) wood screws and springs and will haff ta align the position with the guard in place then remove it in order tew mount the P/U.

Any TELECASTER guard will werk fer a pickguard mount.

If the one yew git don't haff the holes yew kin jes stick the P/U inna slot and mark and drill the holes.

Good luck!!

You guys are the best! One last question, if you "pickguard mount", how to you set it up for height adjustment? Thanks again. Bryan
