Anyone Else Like The Sound of Dead Strings on Their Tele?

I always find that I miss my old dead strings when I pull them off my Tele.

I love new stings, but sometimes there is something cool about the way dead strings sound. I heard of a few stories about famous players dipping their strings in buckets of water to get them all dirtied up before use. I dunno maybe it's just because they sound more precussive, but I like it. Maybe I'm weird.

I might just go back to using flatwounds in the future and get a little of both tones.

I use Ernie Ball super slinky's on my Tele and I like the way they sound after a couple of days of playing on them because they stretch out and aren't so bright.

And I like to keep them clean with string cleaner so they last longer.

That's why I use Elixirs. They last forever. Probably longer than me.

Back in my locking tremolo days I would never change strings unless one broke, then I would mourn when I had to change them. Hated the bright brassy sound of new strings.
Now, with a Tele I enjoy that newness of new strings but I do okay with old ones too.

I have a good friend of over 50 years that would not use new strings.Because I preferred new bright sounding strings I would change them often.I'd save them up and give them to him when we got together.Hell of it is he was avery good Chet style picker.
Go figure!!!

I don't know about dead, but I don't like them all new and sparkly.

I love new strings, the wound strings go completely dead after they get really old, and as a result lose 90% of their clarity.

My Baja had a set of dead 10's on for ages and it drove me crazy..

It is true . I have used Electroharmonix 10s and 11s until now, but the Elixirs (which i have a test set running) are a mystery :-)

I don't like strings when they sound dead and dull so I tend to change them every 3 years whether they need it or not! hee, hee,

In all seriousness, I change mine every couple of weeks as I tend to play most days and I do like the sound of new Ernie Ball Slinky's.

I keep Flatwounds on my Esquire because it's my Luther Perkins guitar. You kind of need that dead sound.

When it comes to absolute twang, Elixirs are a must for me. The only time I have to change strings is when they break because I beat my Teles.

Can't stand the sound, or the feel of old strings (4 weeks old). I change my strings about once a month. Even using string cleaner after every use, after about 4 weeks they feel so bad, I can't stand to play on them anymore. If money were no object, I'd change them every 2 weeks. Nothing sounds better than a new set of strings on my guitars!

A new set of Slinkys does sound nice but IMO they sound even better after a few weeks of playing.

I love the sound of new strings, bright and twangy. Elixirs to me are dead when you get them, that's why they last so long, they suck the tone out of everything they get strung on.

I don't mind dead sounding, but after awhile mine get to where they don't hold tune, so I change them.

Hate dead strings. Hate the sound, hate the feel, hate the look.

I have students who won't pay for a string change more than once a year or more. A year in the grubby hands of a student or any other practicing musician, render the strings rusty, they won't intonate, and they won't glide under the fingers. Any excuse about not being able to do slides or bends properly is met with "change your strings", a service, by the way, which I provide for free to my students (they buy the strings).

when i gig, i always put on a set of new strings, for i like that metallic twang only a new string gives.
and it does not mean at the same time, that the strings are too bright sounding, itīs just that cling....
when i rehearse , i donīt care much about dead strings unless they are not sounding like rubber bands....or just black....
any way i have to change strings every 10-14 days , even i īm not gigging, due to my palm sweat.

I change every 4-6 weeks. I love new strings and older ones have trouble staying in tune

I change mine on an intuitive basis. After several months they lose a certain something.
