Help ID this tele please....
Hey guys, new poster here and hope you can help me out. I ran across this tele today. It appears to be a Made In Japan from what I can tell. It has no serial #s. Has Fender Japan on the tuners though. I separated the body from neck and it has TL-354 on the back of the neck and 1-30-86 on the end of it. The truss rod adjustment is where the body meets the neck.
Any info on what I have here? TIA ![]() ![]()

Sorry I can't remember any specifics, but there has been a lot of talk around here about those...particularly the saddles. I have a feeling its a squire from memory, and the fact that the serial number is missing, and that Fender decal raise some red flags to me. Its an odd placement for the decal (under the string trees) and its a 50s style "fender" with a later style "telecaster"

I have one that has TL 3 54 on the back of the neck, and has 1 23 85 written on the end of the neck. The previous owner made it a string through, and put all black hardware on it. I haven't been able to find out much about them.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's a Squire.
That neck is different than many new squires, but I can see sanding off the Squire logo and slapping the Fender part there. You would have to take it all apart for an educated guess. |

I own that guitar. it is a Squier E series from 1985 or 86.The body is 4 piece. the pickguard should be 5 screw not 6 like yours(the middle top screw is added on).the bridge is a toploader. The batman string trees are correct but the Fender decal is bogus,no way the string tree goes over the logo, its a Squier with the s/n removed. But they are great guitars and were made on the same assembly line with the Fenders(fenders were 3 piece bodies or less).Chuck Prophet plays this guitar, a Squier and feels it is the best guitar he has.

Also the Telecaster logo is wrong. The Squier Telecaster logo was very small print with Made in Japan below it and then, by Fender below that.
The original tuners say Gotch on them.Yours may be from a Fender MIJ guitar. My Fender MIJ Strat had those tuners on it.
