Gretsch "G" brand

Let's just say that if I wanted to, hypothetically, put a Gretsch/Chet Atkins "G" logo on the body of my tele, what would be the best/most permanent way to do so?

Depends on the guitar.... but....
A branding iron??? I wouldn't do it to any of mine but would love to see how it turns out!

least permanent way (best): get Gretsch "G" knobs or put a "G" sticker on your pickguard.

most permanent way (you'll regret it): have a waterslide decal created and bury it under several layers of clearcoat.

or buy a Gretsch (I know I want one!! )

My Gretsch 6121 has the G brand and it's routed and then painted. But the Gretsch "G" is also available as a sticker. You might try that first to be sure you like it.

Also, check out answers to this question at www.gretsch-talk.com our Gretsch sister-site.

The thought of permanent permanence...

I like my "permanent" to be "undoable"

You could always get a woodburning iron with a flat/chisel tip and do it, but that would take some time and you may or may not have consistent results. You could also get some fine chisels and score out the outline and then go to town on the inside, then stain it in a dark brown or black.

Either of the above methods would work, but would be fairly labor intensive. Of course, you could always have a branding iron made and do it the right way, but that would be pretty expensive for a one-time use, I'd think.
