My take on a classic...
Hey guys,
Some time ago a client ordered a double cut Tele body from me, but due to one thing or another, was unable to go through on the deal. ![]() So anyway, I decided to keep the body as I've always liked the DC concept. It was also a chance to break away from the usual pre-CBS stuff and flex the creative muscles! So, I opened CorelDraw and started moving and bending lines. After about an hour and around five pickguard designs later, I decided on this: ![]() And about 6 weeks later, done. Just waiting on a string guide. ![]() It is dimentionally identical to the drawing. The pickguard drawing was exported as a .DXF which was used to cut a template on the CNC machine. I then use the template to cut the guard from 1.5mm ABS on the router table. Well, I love it. Plays and sounds just like a great Tele should. Pickups are Duncan Vintage '54 in the bridge, and Duncan '50's in the neck. All Nitro finish of course. Leme know what you think! |

Man, if I saw that for sale with a maple neck and black guard I'd be itchin! Great job, like the design! The lines work really well together.

I'm sure that's been done before...but I've never seen one. Wonderful job. I love it and I want to see that body in all different colors. Nice touch on the kidney shape pickguard too. ReVintage, reinvents.
(I gotta stop looking at those picks...GASing for one right now.) |

Cheers guys.
Agreed that the maple neck/black guard combo would look great, but from a playing perspective I just prefer rosewood boards, and the white guard goes better than the black. I like the design so much that I'll be doing more. I'm thinking an Alder custom colour next, or maybe I'll go crazy and do a bound cherry mahogany... I'm open to suggestions? I will document the next build in the Home Depot forum. More specs: Swamp Ash body (2 piece centre joined). Fender 'original' brand bridge and control plate. Wilkinson compensated saddles. CTS 250k pots. Switchcraft output jack. Oak 3-way switch, standard wiring. Genuine Kluson Deluxe tuners (very nice!). Final weight: 7lb 12oz. Thanks again guys for all your kind words. I'm glad you're liking it! |

I was thinking of a rear-routed control cavity on the next one... I may do the bridge PUP too and make an aluminium half bridge. Oh the possibilities... |

Mate, that is gorgeous !!!
The pickguard compliments it perfectly, imo. Well done.

I think the white pickguard is the right one, most especially with the dark board.
I think a dual cutaway guitar needs the rosewood, ebony, kingwood, etc. fretboard as an homage to all things "335". The pickguard design is an excellent one. I heartily approve - but I can see even more, other variants which this design suggests. This may be the first fully symmetrical dual cutaway T-body I can give my unqualified, excited thumbs up to. Ever. All the others; things like the TC-90, I would always be looking at it and saying - "if only it wasn't" and I am pleased to feel free of that, looking at this gorgeous trans ash finish. What a fine, fine guitar. All the details around the headstock and heel are immaculate, as well.

Nice guitar! Reminds me of an old Epiphone Crestwood.

Outstanding work on a gorgeous and very unique tele.
The initial drawing was well done and the PG design tastefully integrated, but I just didn't think I would care for it executed as a real guitar.............. The first actual photo changed that very quickly and the successive ones even more so. Congrats!

Thanks guys, you're all very kind.
Well I got the string tree on which makes this Guitar complete. I've been playing her through a Blues Junior pretty much non-stop and it's quickly become my #1. This thing just rings for ever. Now I'm lookin' forward to planning the next. I'll keep you posted on that! |

Hey guys,
I added a sound clip. Just some blues noodling... The rhythm part is both pups, and the lead part is the bridge pup; vol/tone full. *SOUND CLIP*
