Craigslist "Hwy 1 Texas Tele" ...not?

Our local Craigslist has a post from someone selling an "03 Fender Highway One Series Texas Telecaster." I have a Highway One Texas which I am greatly fond of, and would even pick up another if the price was right.

However, I'm wondering whether this is an actual "Texas" Highway One. Perhaps some of you all can remember the details of the first run Texas model, I am not sure I remember correctly. This ad clearly shows a rosewood fretboard and the ad copy says it has that. I thought the Texas model never had rosewood? Also, the sunburst seems to look as though it is the three color sunburst, rather than the two color sunburst. I thought all Texas models had the two color sunburst?

There are pix with the ad, but too small to enlarge enough to tell with certainty regarding the sunburst color. I can't tell which tuners are installed, nor can I manage to count the number of frets - I know the standard Highway One has 22 while the Texas has 21.

The ad claims the neck is a 12" radius neck, which is correct.

I'm in contact with the seller, but I think I need to ask some "hard" questions.

What do you all think?

Hi Nick.

Yeah, the pix are not so hot. I've emailed him and he says he'll try to get me some better pix later this evening or tomorrow.

Did you think that sunburst looked like a three color? I think I'm seeing red in there...

Not.

Saw the ad and pictures. That's a first edition standard Highway 1. That's a decent price for a first edition standard HWY 1.

Texas Highway 1 are unchanged from it's debut.

I'm thinking "not," too. I don't recall a HWY 1 Texas ever having a rosewood fretboard.

I'm still waiting for some better pix...

Yes, evidently so.

I just received an email from this seller, and he included some decent pictures. Not only is the neck not maple, it has 22 frets rather than the 21 of the Texas model. More problems - the sunburst is three color for sure, not the two color of the Texas. The pick-guard has eight screws rather than the Texas' five. The tuners are the not the vintage type of the Texas, but rather those of the standard Highway One. The bridge is a six saddle type, but the seller did mention that it had been changed (original included in the sale) - I didn't see pix of the original to see whether the saddles were brass.

It would seem that the seller has a nice first model Standard Highway One, but not the Texas model. I sent him a polite reply saying so.

Thanks for the help guys!

Ahh Terry, too bad for you.

Wonder if the guy will change the price too if he makes the description changes.
