wow very nice! I like it alot - looks like you got one of the good ones from what I can tell, the "relic" seems much nicer than the ones I saw in person at the store, and the color of the neck- congrats!

Fender (and Gibson) in cooperation with Musician's Friend, are making an end run around the newly implemented price increases and more importantly the Maximum Advertised Price rules by sidestepping the prohibition of advertising these lower prices in print or on the web. You gotta call in. Kinda like a speakeasy in the days of Prohibition or these little "clubs" they have in dry counties where a passerby can "join the club" and legally drink alcohol. Now, the decision on the part of some managers to "price match" where you hadn't got it in writing from elsewhere is their own prerogative, I would bet. In regions with plenty of cash floating around, they may not want to honor the match. Price matching is technically for if you: 1) Actually bought that model guitar and have the receipt in hand, and want another; or 2) Have something in Writing from the other vendor. But that's just it. MF isn't printing anything; they're communicating word of mouth. ![]() So, what you could do is: 1) Order one on the special phone deal from MF; 2) Request an e-mail confirming the transaction and print it out; 3) Take the printout to any store but probably GC or Sam Ash and cherry pick one out of store inventory that suits you, and buy that one, too. 4) Return the MF guitar when it arrives, unless by some happenstance it is better than the store one - return the lesser guitar to its source for credit. Whew!

Once I got my second "Inlay" 60th Anniversary AV52 Telecaster in one Guitar Center location for $ 766, I took that receipt to one GC after another after another. It was in the computer, to just blow them out but the receipt helped immensely since (understandably) the clerks were flummoxed by the idea of a customer leaving the store with a new old stock FSR AV52 Special Edition guitar for way way under $ 1,000.00. Until the clerk pushed the right sets of keys on the keypad, he thought I was nuts. More than one of those clerks was "aw" when he realized the deal was right there in his grasp - and the guitar got away. (This was end of 2007, first part of 2008, that deal is long long gone).
Moral. Don't take no for an answer. Persist.

If they just lowered the price to $600 they could sell them all day long.
That one looks really good congrats!

I played one of those at GC the other day. REAL nice feel. I'm not generally a relic fan, but that could change... They are all a bit different, that I saw. Not cookie cutter relic. Enjoy! |

for $600 these things would absolutely fly off the shelves im sure. i wonder who the genius was at fender who said 'why don't we just take all the finish flawed models, beat the piss out of them, and then tell everyone we meant to do it!'
never played one, but i don't have a problem with one. either way, you gotta wonder how they did think of the idea, eh? hehe |

You realize there are scores of guys reading this post - then looking at their wives - and then looking at the ground. You are one lucky devil - you know that, right?

I was in GC getting a new pot for my tele and noticed one marked at $599. It looks like that's price point they are headed with them. Fender's is retreating from their ridiculous price increases. It's either the economy, or someone in marketing knew what they were doing. "Let's jack everything up and make people mad. Then we'll drop the price and everyone will think they are getting good deals."
I guess it doesn't matter as long as the consumer is getting a lower price. Congrats on the new tele. |

How come all you guys in America get all the good deals???
Its not fair that you guys can get the roadworn for $599, thats €426 and if I wanted to get one it would cost me $1545 which is €1099!!!! And thats the cheapest I could get it! THATS OVER TWICE THE PRICE YOU PAY!!!!!! ![]() But still thats a nice guitar!! Nice relic job!! I really want one now! |

Even with postage and VAT my Strat was 60% of buying in the UK. The only disadvantage is not being able to hand pick it. But at a saving of €350.....!
