My new Hahn 1229 - Thanks Chihoe!!
It seems everyone is getting new Tele's these days, so I thought I would join in.
Pics first - ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the prototype of Chihoe's new model 1229. He was kind enough to sell it to me, and I can't thank him enough. There are already a few clips of this guitar on Youtube. This is my favorite and the clip that spurred my interest in this particular guitar. Here is Chihoe describing the new model at NAMM - He does it 1000x better than I ever could. All I can say that this is an amazing guitar, that rivals my 52 in the feel/tone/mojo dept., and I truly feel honored to own it. Chihoe is a pleasure to deal with, and all those nice things people say about him are true. Thanks again, and continued success!!!! Rich

Wow!
I will never be able to pick between Kirn guitars and Hahn guitars.....so.....I guess I'm just going to have to have one of each.

It is beautiful, Rich.
That clip really demonstrates that it has something new and exciting to offer. Now, I'm wondering if I should be considering 'hog necks to go on some of these mahogany T syle guitars I've been sticking together.

Thanks guys!!
Mike - I would say it compliments my 52, as opposed to contrasting it. That may sound weird, but I'll bring them both to the next jam, and you can see what I mean. It was in the mid 2000's (which is a lot of $$$), and I considered that an extremely fair price for an instrument like this.

Oh yeah, it's a sweet guitar. I know, because I got to play it for a few minutes yesterday. It's so light and responsive. And the neck just feels soooo good. The detailed dialing in of that neck is really apparent, exquisite fret work. Congrats, Rich. Now don't go neglecting your real Blackguard, or I may have to baby sit it for you.

Chihoe is indeed a class act, a gentleman, and just an ordinary guy. We got to spend some time with him and his lovely bride back on June 5th when we caught Redd Volkaert and Heybale in NYC. Redd played one of Chihoe's Teles for the evening. I'd say it sounded great, but what wouldn't sound great with Redd playing it??
Rich, Mitch Roberts, and myself had the pleasure of seeing the Robben Ford show where this sound check clip was recorded, thanks to Rich. Ford has a way of making it sound pretty darn good too. I can't wait to have "a go" at it Rich. We'll see what it sounds like with a mere mortal playing it. Congrats and I'll see you soon!

You're welcome Rich - and thanks for bringing over the '52 and letting me check it out. And thanks everyone for the nice comments. That guitar is the prototype (you can tell by the wrong decal, the filled screwholes, etc), and I couldn't be happier that it found such a good home (and brother)

Very nice and the woods probably give a great paulish vibe to the tone.
I would personally swap the guard out for a black one though.

Thanks all. I couldn't imagine this guitar with a different pickguard on it. I've actually never seen one like it before. Maybe I have to get out more.

Rich:
I loved the guitar when I saw the pics here, but getting to play it yesterday just blew me away. What a fantastic guitar. There's something about the tone of that guitar that's addictive. I don't think I ever heard you play better either. Great work, Chihoe! Joe |

Bee-you-tiful
Hey Rich,
Great guitar. Thanks for letting me play it at the jam Saturday. It felt great and I loved the feel of the neck. I could really wrap my hand around and use my thumb over the neck...not something I can do with most guitars and my short fat fingers. The guityar too is a work of art...great color...great grain, and I love how the neck and body are perfectly matched. Last and not least it sounded terrific too...with great tones in all the pickup positions. I only hacve one complaint...with everyone wanting to play it, I had to give it up after just one tune. Next time! Congrats on a great new axe. I'd say it was a keeper, but knowing you and the way you move guitars in and out of your collection...one never knows. But it really is a one of a kind guitar. I'll give you $400 in cash for it right now... |

I thought you said $450 on Saturday???!!!!
Thanks Chip!! I'm pretty sure this one will be staying with me for the long haul. I rank it up there with my 52, as far as a "keeper".

I would contact Chihoe for a price quote, but as far as I know they are a few hundred less than the least expensive 228.
