Satin finish buffing tip.

I tried cleaning off a mark on my blonde H1 which only resulted in a bigger smear which I couldn't shift. I then tried Ronsonol (naphtha) which also didn't work. Among my household cleaning products under the kitchen sink was a can of Silvo, silver polish. I don't know if it's available in America but it's impregnated cotton wadding. I tried this and discovered that not only did it get the mark out but, on cleaning it off, it left a finish like a nicely played-in satin finished maple neck; slightly glossy but not glassy.
I did the rest of my top rubbing in a bit of Silvo and polishing off with a coarse old towel. It took about 10 minutes.

Toothpaste also works wonders.

Not any fancy types just the plain old colgate white.

I had a black 1955 Les Paul fretless wonder in the early 80's and it had all kinds of marks swirls looked bad after the toothpaste and some wax looked 99% new.

Toothpaste also works great for polishing out scratches on Plexiglass watch crystals.

Works good on eyeglasses too.

Pickguards too.

I learned this in 1963 from a tip I got while making model cars.

I used the toothpaste to buff out a model car I had painted and I won 1st place the paint looked flawless zero orange peel.

+1 .toothpaste is a great polish with just the right amount of.. ahem "tooth" to work .If not try Chroma 1500 auto finisher .not a polish ,silcone free ,but very fine and polishes paint and finishes up superbly, especially poly on modern guitars which does not like the fine scratches you get with other gritty types of polish like T cut .

+1 yet again .I just use it on a badly scratched spectacle lens (plastic and also same for model car paint .I dropped some super glue on a model Jaguar years ago and after some extreme wet and dry ,used toothpaste for a mirror finish took hours and hours.
